well about a week ago i got a male parakeet, he was such a graet bird. I felt sorry for him, because i was gone all day at school and work so i decided to get him a female companion. he seemed really excited at first and even gave the female a birdy kiss. i was sooooo glad that everything was working out ok but suddenly he began to peck at her, nothing bad just a warning peck. but the thing that confuses me is that when ever im not around he acts like he likes her. ive been told that maybe hes just jealous because he used to have all my attention and now he hased to share it with another bird. im a first time bird owner so i have no idea whats going on. can someone please help me and my birds, ilove them so much i just want to help them. hi, Male birds peck and hiss at females when they are in breeding mode, sounds like your male is wanting to mate but the female does not. Its always best to place new birds in another cage next to the one you already have this way they can get to know each other then after a few days place them both in a different cage so they are getting to know each other on nuetral territory so its not his space and not hers.. Once they have become used to each other they can be left together.. I wouldnt worry to much about his behaviour aslong as he dont pluck her feathers out or make her bleed if the pecking gets too bad it would be a good idea to to seperate the birds IP: Logged |
