I have heard that the female budgie has a peanut colored cete and the male budgie will have a colorful cete, is that true? Are there any OTHER ways to tell the difference between the male and female Budgie? Because Ive heard of the blood testing of the feathers but I don't want to do that. IP: Logged |

Hi, A female budgie will have a pale coloured cere and a dark brown cere if in breeding mode. A male budgie will have a cere of any colour except cream. All young budgies resemble a female until after there first molt. There is DNA sexing available from a avian vet. How old are your birds what colours are they and what colour do there ceres look.. Charmedagain, Well my e-mails not working so I'll have to respond this way. Im not sure of the exact age of the birds but they both look young. The one that I think is a female is blue, white, and grey, and has a pale cere. And the male is green, yellow, and black, and has a greenish blue cere. The blue one looks the same size as the green one, and almost positive that he's a male. About how old are they when they first molt and about how big do adults get? They Dont grow very bigfrom the sounds of it they should be at there adult size.. Usually birds go through there first molt around 12 weeks of age and can last several months so dont worry if you find feathers on the cage floor they are not pecking them out.. i would have to say you are spot on about the sex of your birds as they mature and the female comes into breeding mode her cere will change to a very dark brown colour.
