Hi, Last week I caught two beautiful green parrots in my uncles back yard(NOT WITH VIOLENCE MIND YOU). I looked them up online, and got everything that they need to live a long, and healthy life. But they seem kind of down. I thought that since they had each other they would be more happy. What I did was put some seeds in a bowl in a cage, and both of them came in, and I shut the door. I saved them because people were complaining about the birds making to much noise, and someone was planning to shoot them. So I went into action! Should I let them go, or get them a bigger cage? Did I even do the right thing? PLEASE HELP! Thanks in advance IP: Logged |

i wouldn't set them free if i were you. An animal might get them or they could die from exposure. If you already have the stuff to keep them then keep them..also you might want to put out notices around saying you found two green parrots their owner might miss them and come and get them. If someone doesn't claim them then i would try a bigger cage...keeping in mind that it will take a while for them to adjust to their new environment and to you...Good luck!! IP: Logged |

Hi DO NOT LET THEM GO!!! They could die and after all your efforts they'd die so there is no point in letting them go. I'd say buy them a new cage. Also do you have any idea what kind of parrots they are? If you have any pics email them to me @ feathereddude@hotmail.com and I'll try find out for you if you dont know. It'll help in your research but whatever you do DON'T LET THEM GO! IP: Logged |

Are the parrots wild? If they are, I don't think that it's right to take their freedom from them just because they were flying in your uncle's backyard or because you want birds. That seems kind of selfish to me. If they are wild they will know how to take care of themselves. They survived long enough for you to capture them, right? You should never cage wild birds. You need to let them go. IP: Logged |

If the breed of the parrots is generally a domesticated breed, I would keep them. Especially after what you said about someone shooting them. (Yikes!) Be sure, however, that they have enough room to flap their wings. It would be best, depending on their size, for them to have a large enough cage for them to fly a little in. This will lift their spirits a bit. Other than that, just give them time. I caught my first bird, a little Roller canary, when she landed on my head. She was banded, so I knew she was tame. We built her a nice cage, big enough for three canaries, and released her in there. She was listless and sad-looking for about three days. But after a while, she gradually reaccustomed herself to domestic life, and is now happier than ever with her two new friends, Skittles (green budgie) and Cruise (lutino Cockatiel). Good luck!
