My parents' cockatiel (a silver male with yellow face and orange cheeks) flew away as they were attempting to move him into their car. He hadn't had his wings clipped in a long long time. I've been reading stories of people who've recovered lost 'tiels even in large urban areas. Is it hopeless that I'll ever see Buddy again even if people are looking for him Might I add that its winter here and cockatiels are accustomed to warm dry climates like those found in Australia. I'd appreciate any response.

Try sticking his cage outside with lots of food and water in it. He may be hanging out around your place but doesn't know how to get back. Perhaps he'll see his toys and food and fly back in.

Alex few off one day and we thought she was a goner, but she flew over the house, around the barn and straight back to my mother. Thank goodness!!

My two cockatiels have returned to us numerous times. Keep a look out! Mine always tended to fly in circles over the area. Once my male stayed out overnight but continued flying circles in the morning. When he was close by, whistling at him seemed to help him see where we were. When mine get out they often land in nearby trees after circling.
