i have had 3 parakeets before. i had a female and male, i think? about 3 months later the male died, and we didnt know why. we went and bought another (not knowing the sex) when we relized that the bird wasnt allowing the other bird to eat(the new one wasnt eating). but we were to late and he died so we didnt buy a new one so we had that one for about 8 years when she died. its about 2 0r 3 years later and i decided to get another bird, her name is shelby, she is really young and i dont know her age.im not home alot so i bought her a mirror. i want to know if i can get another one but i dont want a repeat like our last 3 birds. should i take her to the vet to get her sexed? and then see if i can get another?(her cere is light purplish and kinda white) IP: Logged |

Hi, Sounds like she is younger than 6months old. What colour is her body feathers. Colours of ceres, males pinkish/purple blue. Females white/tan and dark brown when in breeding mode. Getting another bird for her would have to be roughly the same age as her that way they be no fighting how long has she been on her own. Before placing them in the same cage for a week or 2 the new bird will have to be place in a cage of its own until you know that it is healthy with no illnesses and your other bird can get used to him before placing them together. mike. Hi since she is still only a young bird you can get her another bird of either sex it dont matter as males will live together so will females only time there is fighting is if there is 2males and 1 female in a cage as the males fight over the female. So if you want to get her a friend i would say yes go for it mike IP: Logged |
