My friend ( who isn't a really know anything about budgies ) got a budgie and she thinks its a girl, but I said its a boy ( so now she thinks its a boy ). And she had her brother get a budgie, ( and she thinks its a girl ) Her family is going to breed them... I don't think they know anything about budgies...She thinks she does, but I don't think she does. She buys like all the wrong things for it.

So does anyone have anything I could tell her that would make her not want to get budgies?

I know she isn't ready, and frankly I don't think people should be breeding birds for a hobbie for a sort!

Hiya If your friends can not tell the sex of there birds then they should not be breeding them.

they have to be aware that there is many risks that come along with breeding.

Egg Binding ( egg stuck in oviduct)
Rejecting chicks or killing chicks.
Death due to egg laying the list goes on.

Before breeding they need to know everything there is to know about budgies.
from nutrients and feeding upto how to tell if the birds are sick.

I would have to say if they go ahead and breed theses birds and are not feeding correctly or not looking after them properly with proper housing and lights and heat thenthey are doomed from the begining.

If they dont know how old the birds are breeding young birds is very risky as the hen can die from egg laying.

If they abandon chicks have the got the time to hand feed them do they know how to do it correctly?

Have the got a brooder?
Do they have the number and address of a good avian vet?

you are right to be concerned about the welfare of the birds.
I breed budgies and cockatiels and i know the problems that arise and its very scary and i been doing it awhile now.
