I let my 1 1/2 yr old grey cockatiel out today to have a fly around and i forgot to close the blinds in my living room window. He flew into the window hard and landed on my couch. His face was bleeding right between his nose and he was sprawled out with his wings spread. I put him in his cage with a cover on it to let him rest. I think he may have a concussion. I dont know what to do. Pleas help! IP: Logged |

Hi I would have him checked by an avian vet ASAP. He may have broken or cracked his beak concussion in any bird is not good as there bodys are not equiped to deal with that amount of trauma please keep us possted of how he is doing make sure he is also warm and comftable he may suprise us all and be fine in a few hours and will probably do it again. mike. I had him in a cage with a budgie and they were fine and stuff but after i put the injured bird back in his cage the budgie jumped on him so i took him out and put him in a box with a blanket on the bottom and a little dish with water in it. he weems to be doing fine. Hes walking around a bit and even perches on my finger, but mostly he sleeps. I hope hes back to normal soon. Thanks for your reply. Ryan IP: Logged |

Hi, Providing he can perch steadily he should be fine, The reason your budgie jumped on him when you placed him back in the cage could be because he knows your cockatiel is injured. mike IP: Logged |

Good news. I took Ben (my bird) to the vet today because it looked like he had a crack in his beak. The vet said that she tested his beak by letting him bite a towel and she said he held on tight so his beaks probably fine and that the crack might just be flake. Also i noticed he is eating again. so thanks for your help. Ryan [This message has been edited by Petguy (edited 02-01-2004).] IP: Logged |

The exact thing happened with my cockatiel, Zoey once. She was okay though. Glad yours turned out to be ok too! The bleeding beak will heal quickly IP: Logged |
