I recently bought a second parakeet(female), and my male pale blue parakeet has not accepted her and consistently bites at her to make her leave his area. I can exchange the rejected female. How should I select a compatiable parakeet for my male? How do you successfully introduce a second keet to promote friendship. He actively plays with mirrors and toys and sings responsively. Should I keep him without a companion?

When introducing a female to a male you will need to remove all toys and mirrors as these are his things and he wont take to kindly to another bird being near them.

If you have another cage you can place them both in there for a couple of days as this is nuetral territory so he should not fight with her.

Also before putting a new bird in with your old one they should be kept seperate for about a week this is the quarantine period to keep on eye on the new bird for any signs off illness or disease it also helps them become used to each other as they can see through the bars and will sing and call to each other.

After this time they can be place together and watched if he is drawing blood from fighting remove her as some males will not take to an intruder wether it be male or female.

Allow them to fly around a room that is safe from anything they can hurt themselves on this is also a good way to introduce your birds to each other.

if you would like more advice you can email me.
