I just bought my parakeet over the weekend. I did that so I could spend more time with him while he adjusted to his new home. Now that I'm in work all day during the week, I'm afraid he'll feel neglected. I leave the TV on for him, just so he'll hear other voices.... am I worring for no reason? IP: Logged |

hey. same thing with me. my bird was very lonely and would squak when no one was home so bought her a friend. i tried mirrors, but all she wanted was to be in her cage with the mirror (always tried to fly to her cage). and now i dont know if you have room for another bird or not. and they stay next to each other and preen. other wise i dont know i did the tv thing but i still felt bad. so i think mike could help you more. he helped me.-kyle IP: Logged |

Hi there he will not feel neglected does he have toys and a mirror to keep him occupied while your away. If the tv does not work try leavinga radio on i do for my birds also when listening to music you may find your bird likes a certain kind of music or just one song and chirps along happily if this is the case and you can copy that song to a tape or cd and play it continuesly and that should stop him being bored. Also like kyle mentioned if you have the space for another bird then this will br great for him it does not have to be of the opposite sex it can be same sex as they will still bond and become friends and keep each other company. Talking to your bird the same time everyday and saying bye to him when your leaving and saying hello when you arrive home he will learn that you are still his friend and not neglecting him. mike. Thanks for the advice.... He has toys, although he's not playing with them yet. I've always heard that putting a mirror in the cage makes them more aggresive if you try to finger tame them or hold them. They bond with the mirror, thinking it's another bird and they won't bother with the owner... is there any truth to that? [This message has been edited by lisa (edited 02-18-2004).] IP: Logged |
