My room mate just bought a new rat yesterday. She already had one who is healthy and well. Unfortunately the previous rat doesn't seem to like the new one, and I have a feeling I know why. It's not right in the head. I'm thinking it might be a nervous disorder, but the new one (who I am calling Seven) is having trouble standing and instead falls over on it's side. It doesn't close its eyes and seems to hold it's head to one side. ( I believe it's the left side). Her motor skills are lacking and her senses are seeming to lack as well. She doesn't really touch food or water. So, after my room mate left today I heard Six (the first rat) harassing Seven. When I went in there Seven was on her back and Six was biting at her. I pulled out Seven and put her in a 10 gallon tank with a towel which goes into a small box, and a sock. Also some food and water. I'm thinking she should take it back or at least see the vet. Anyone agree?? IP: Logged |

Unfortunately, rats are extremellysusceptible to tumors, including brain tumors.Half of all the rats I have owned have died from tumors. They are terribly inbred as there no controls on rat breeding and most have no pedigrees,Seven is probably suffering and you should consider having him euthanized. Sorry,Its a pretty common problem, and its hard to choose a rat that wont have the problem as you cant know anything about its breeding. IP: Logged |
