I'm new here, and am in need of help. My pit, Stella, has had all the signs of pregnancy over the last 9 weeks. I've even been able to feel them, or so I thought. A couple days ago, she atarted looking really skinny. Now all of a sudden her stomach feels "empty". I need to know if it's possible for her to have miscarried, and if she did what I need to look for to tell if that's what happened. Any help would be greatly apprciated. IP: Logged |

could be. If she did the vet will be able to tell. I would definately have her checked out. Hemmorage and many other bleeding and infections could cause serious problems. IP: Logged |

HI i dont mean to sound rude in anyway but did you have her examined by a vet to find out if she was indeed pregnant. I have had a female that has had all the signs of pregnancy but had reabsorb the foetus around the 4th-5th week of pregnancy before there bones started calcifying. If your dog was preganant and she lost the pups after the 7th week of her pregnancy she would have given birth to the dead foetuses and eaten them but you would have seen some blood. Some females will retain some or all of the dead foetuses so a vet check is really a good idea. A female having a phantom pregnancy can have all the signs of pregnancy from gaining weight and producing milk to being able to feel movement in her abdomen which when found out it was a phantom shows it was wind that was moving around her abdomen. But a vet will be able to tell you if she has actually been in whelp and lost the litter. This is why its always best to have a female that is pregnant checked regular by a vet to keep an eye on her. Hope you little girl is ok and you find out the answers from your vet. mike. IP: Logged |

You should take her to a vet. If in fact she was pregnant and miscarried they may have to do something to make sure all the tissue and stuff got out so she doesnt' get an infection. Were you trying to breed her? If not it might be a good idea to get her fixed. If she is going to be around intact males with no supervision this could happen again. IP: Logged |
