Help cat stop eating the dogs food.

My dog is a very picky and slow eater. Because of this I keep her food out for her at all times. The problem I'm having is that my cat is eating the dogs food on a very regular basis. I know this is not good for my cats nutritional needs. Does anyone have an ideas as to how I can get him (my cat) to stop eating the dogs food? Any help would be really appreciated.

:? That's a tough one....I have the opposite problem and just raise the cats' dish. Could you block the cat from the dog's food somehow...like in another room?

Yes I could do that but considering the dogs eating habbits doing so would mean I'd have to do this 24hrs a day. I don't want to have to shut them out from one another as they are the best of friends. The only thing I can think of is to try and get the dog on some sort of schedule but again, her eating habbits aren't that great.

My poodle used to be like that too and a few of my cats were also eating the dog food. It took me a while but I was finally able to get him on a feeding schedule. Maybe putting the dogs food down for 10mins or so 3 to 4 times daily would help get her on a schedule... since the food won't be available constantly she may be more likely to eat it when it is out. Good luck.
