I wanna Min Pin

My old girl passed away a couple days ago... It hasn't been long, and I will miss her the rest of my life... But I am confident that I was as faithful and loyal to her right to the end, as she was to me...

Sooooo.... Much bad stuff has happened in my life this summer...
My house really needs a happy new little addition...

And I can't think of a single thing in this world that would cheer me up better than a new best freind to love.

I have never gotten a dog before by looking for a specific breed (always did the pound puppied)

But this time I really want a min-pin...

Any advice about this...?

I will have a friend in Vancouver this Thursday (Oct 27th) who is willing to bring her back on the plane with them... if I could find one fast enough...
But maybe rushing this - isn't the thing I want to do...?

I don't want to get her from someone who is not responsible about the health issues... I'm never going to show her... Just want a pet.

Am I allowed to ask on here if any of you know of any breeders in the Vancouver area, who are reputable...?

 

Min Pin and adoption

I am a breeder and raise as well as rescue. I first would recomend that you take serious time to read all you can about this breed. This is truly a breed that will tax your patience. It is not a cuddly small toy dog. It is in fact a very athletic dog that likes to be on the go. It's instincts for hunting and ferreting are still very strong and being that it is a very fearless small dog, will defend it's territory and can be quite loud when doing so. Pin's beyond what most people think are truly not good apartment dogs. They need a yard (very secure) so they can run and play. Note that this breed is noted as the greatest escape artist of all breeds. If there is any weakness in the fenced area, a Min Pin will find it in short order and will bolt. It does not limit it's inate hunting ability to just the back yard but any place it can get to. Pin's can also be difficult to house break. Crate training is needed from the get go. You also need to check the health issues in this breed. There are to primary ones. One pertains to detach of the knee joints the other to premature blindness.
If you wish to adopt you can go on line under web search and type Min Pin. Look for Miniature Pinscher Internet Service (IMPS). They are the largest adoption and rescue and have dogs in Canada as well. Good luck and please take time to be absolutely sure this is the breed you want. I have had to take in many over the years who wanted this dog only because it was small and looked like a Dobie. Sorry, totally the most ignorant a reason for wanting a Min Pin. They do not realize they are little and therefore are not a "toy" just because they are listed as a toy breed. Please be sure...and again, good luck.

I do believe you have changed my mind about getting a Min-Pin...

For 25 years now I have had fluffy type, with lots of hair... And I did my own grooming for most of those years... But in the last couple years about the only thing that makes my asthma act up is when I bath a pet.

I met a Min-Pin last year and thought they would be low maintenance as far as grooming goes. But I did not pay attention to their activity level...

I am aiming at getting more of a lap dog... I will read up on breeds on the internet...

Any suggestions on a more suitable breed...?

 

there are a couple

those these have long hair also, the Pomeranian and Papillon are great little lap dogs. I have been around both breeds and if I was not one of those with the patience of a school bus driver for 3rd graders I would definetly have a Papillon. Totally adorable small dog.

 

How about a Yorkshire Terrier or a miniature or toy Poodle? They seem to be pretty good for people with asthma.

 

from my experience a Papillon would not be a good idea if you are looking for a lap dog. I know 4 people who own them and all of them are hyper, unsocial and will bite you when you do something they dont like, such as sit on their spot on the couch. I would suggest a shitz tzu or a shihpoo if you are looking for something cudly.

I have shihpoo and grooming is not bad. She is still a puppy but i brush her every other day and her hair never mattes. So far I have yet to have her groomed (i prefer the long hair).

 

Anyone know the temperatments of Chipoos or Long Haired Chihuaua's?

 

I have 2 shih tzu's and absolutely love them... great lap babies... they even sleep on my bed with me (and my husband) although that can get annoying when you don't want them touching you... lol
When I was looking for a puppy, I looked up the different breeds on puppyfind.com... I found a ton of information there.

Shih tzu's do require quite a bit of grooming don't they...?

I did my own grooming for the past 25 years with my previous 2 dogs, but in recent years have no longer been able to bath them, as this is the only thing that gives me an asthma attack. So I was taking my Tiffany to the local groomer for the past 2 or 3 years, but she has now shut her shop.

The nearest town with a groomer is 5 hour away...

I love them cute n' fuzzy ones too... But was gona try to find a breed that I found also cute, with maybe a little less grooming required.

 

Oh, I have a friend with a papillon/chi mix... and while it's cute to look at, that dog is MEAN! Definitely territorial, and not friendly at all. I used to think that I loved all dogs....... hmmmmm......lol.

Shihtzu's are great family pets... very friendly, sweet and definitely a good lap dog. I have several friends with shihtzu's and all are happy, sweet dogs.... Of course, I'm partial to my shihpoo mix.... he has all those qualities too. As far as grooming... yes, they need to be groomed, but you can have them cut very short (puppy cut/shave) and that should last about 8 weeks...?

I think you might want to look around a little more.... you don't want to settle and jump into something so quickly.... Have you checked out the local rescues?

 

Min Pins are wonderful

Hi Cheryl. I have a min pin and they are so fun to have around. She is our second one. They are smart, playful, and they love toys. She sleeps cuddled up to me a lot. Maintance is nothing. You can take a wash rag to wipe them down, very little shedding. You just need to establish who is the boss, as with many other small breeds. Study the breed of your choice and that should help you make the right decision. Hope you find the perfect puppy for you soon.
