I just got an 18 month old pomeranian and I stay home with her all day. How much time should I play with her, how many times a day should I play and what are some of the games I should play.

Also before I got her she was in a very loving home but not exposed to ANYTHING. She is scared of everything.. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

    Hi,
Is she scared when shes indoors also? will she play with toys? If this isnt an issue then play it by ear, all dogs need a 'playtime' whether that involves running around a yard or chasing a ball indoors, Ive had some dogs that just refuse to play inside the house. My opinion, at least 2 good play sessions a day. With my own dog she likes to play after her morning walk for about 30 minutes, then she falls asleep for a few hours (shes coming up to about 2 years old now), she's not really interested in playing much again until early evening time and then later will have a 'mad 10 minutes' just after her last walk at night.

As far as her being scared of everything...I can totally relate. Have you thought about taking her to obedience classes? even for dogs that are already trained in obedience joining a class will expose her to other people, other dogs and will give you the 'tools' (the advice and confidence) to gradually work with her in daily situations. My dog was absolutely terrified of everything, I dont think shed even been inside a house before I brought her home from the shelter, she was scared to the point that without even looking and 'weighing up the situation' she tried to jump through a closed window 4 floors up. (the average dog will at least 'look' for a place to escape from first).
Ive worked with her outside, had her going back and forth past things like trash cans, bikes, driveways....its a matter of building up their confidence and desensitizing them.

It takes time though so you need to patient. With my dog, she was an extreme case, she spent the first month or so scared to leave the safety of her bed or crate unless she needed to go to the bathroom.
