Well Since the weather has warmed up My 7.5 month old Brittany has fell in LOVE with diggint Holes eatting the dirt chunks and wood chips it finds.

Is there any possible way to stop a dog from digging a hole and eatting Wood? LOL

    thanks

Is he allowed out in the yard unattended? Would it be possible for you to provide him with a specific "digging area", like a small section in the yard in which he is allowed and encouraged to dig?

I gave my two brittanys a designated digging area under the trampoline. They really only have one hole, but it's about 1.5 feet deep now, though I haven't seen them working on it in a while. Ranger LOVES eating twigs and leaves. If I go somewhere and need him to sit or something, but don't have a treat, I can pick up a stick or leaf and he's the most well behaved little boy you ever met, lol. There was one place they were digging around a sprinkler, but we put a few bricks in the hole and refilled the dirt and they haven't done that since. We also put some type of pepper powder in the flower pots they dug in, but I don't remember which kind exactly. If you do the pepper thing, you may have to try several different types with your dog before you put it on teh pot (just put a small pile on teh ground and let him sniff it or whatever) because Ranger actually liked two of the pepper powders we tried, but not the third.

Make sure when he/she is eating the wood/dirt that you tell her that it is not acceptable(sp?). If you dont remind her that what she is doing is not good then she is going to keep doing it until she knows that she is not subose to do that.

I don't know if this works but in my dog's puppy class, one of the girls had this same problem and the instructor suggested you get a can (pepsi, coke) and fill it with beans and then tape the whole top so the dog doesn't hurt itself. When your dog starts to dig, throw the can close to the dog, not AT the dog  , and this should startle him/her. Unfortunately, little "Emma" in the class thought it was a game and went after the can to take it back to her mom.

Yeah, we tried that with a syrup bottle and pennies. After about 5 min it was Rangers new favorite toy, lol.
