Guess what! petSmart opened here in Victoria this past Saturday. I took Kabuki in for some extra socialization and to get their weekly treats. I barely made it through the door and spent over 3 hours in there! I couldn't leave or move 2 steps! Seriously, the WHOLE store was surrounding me!!!

I was a bit nervous. As Kabuki has never been around that many people before and there must have been a minimum of 8-9 ppl at any given time. She did WONDERFUL! She stayed in a sit and stay, and I allowed a few kids and people to pet her on her back. (We don't allow ppl to pet on top of their heads!)

Anyhow. The store director was asking me where I got her trained. I explained to him my Dogs, I'm an upcoming breeder and have been a breeder of other breeds in the past, and that I train horses and dogs on the side. He was AMAZED.

I was feeling really good about myself at this point, and kind of odd, I never get compliments. And then he asked!

He asked if I would consider being their obediance trainier! So he called some of my refrences, vet, and friends/family, and was psyched. SO I filled my papers out last night and I'm taking them back this afternoon after my lab class with Precious!

So everyone cross your fingers for me!

Great for you. Do you have to go through their training course?
My daughter worked for PetSmart for 4 years and they always wanted her to become a trainer with their company. She would have as she has years experience dealing with dog training as we own multiple dogs and I am a dog trainer, but she needed to go through a 3 wk training course with the company.
I thought it was a company rule?
She ended up getting a wonderful job at Banfield the Pet Hospital in the same building and is now a vet tech. She loves her job and I am so proud of her.
    Good luck to you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How old should puppies be to start trainng school?

I did look into pet smart, for training, then the gilrs came down with parvo, Harley is doing much better, but still has some after affects I think, will talk to vet tommorrow......but aside from that, when is a good age to get started? she is 14 weeks old....should my husband come to to watch? and can he video tape class so we know how to work on things at home??

I would bring the husband and even the kids, if they are old enough to be able to watch and pay attention. Having the dogs do obedience at the command of a child is a VERY good thing to do!

Doesnt PetSmart have their training on video? The company I worked with had the course on video so the owners could refer back to it if needed and they would get that as part of 'that package' (they didnt get charged extra for it), it helps a great deal, the problem if your only going once a week to do the training is you can easily forget something....or worse, think you know your doing something right when your doing it wrong which confuses the dog.

Maybe once you start at PetSmart you could suggest that they put their trianing course on video/DVD. (if they dont already do it that is, Ive never seen their own in the stores although they do sell other peoples).

Oh I know! My cousins got a lab, and they're 3 year old is the most "in charge" of the dog out of all of them. Tess (the dog) ALWAYS does what she says, but the whole family has to say "thit" instead of sit and "thay" instead of stay, lol.
