Anyone seen this before?

I think this is so funny! Every once and a while, I see my two year old Tigger walk around his food bowl in the kitchen and scratch the oak floor like he does in the litter box. He'll eat, and then paw at the ground, and walk away. What is he doing?? Has anyone else had a cat do that? Ill laugh at him, and he'll look at me like what are you laughing at? Crazy cat!

Ten & Toonces do that occasionally. I'm guessing it's sort of an attempt to burry/hide their food.

I've also seen Toonces paw at the ground while drinking water.

Yes, that's right. In the wild cats would have to bury their left over food, so that other predators would not smell it and take it. I've had a few cats do this too.

Yep, chessmind is right. I've noticed Booger doing that occasionaly and then I noticed that she usually does it when I have the windows open and she see's other animals out there.

Luna does this every time she gets moist food on a plate. She always attempts to cover whatever is left by scratching at the floor next to it. I depend on it to let me know when I need to get up and clear her plate!

All my cats dig, but Boris is the most funny.

He likes to paw his food out of the bowl and eat it piece by piece off the ground.

We we used to have the water next to the food, he would pull the morsels into the water and let them soak before eating.

Spooky and Molly do this also. I too thought they were just nuts.

My ginger tom Jasper used to do that ALL the time. He would eat what he wanted, and then 'bury' the rest! It was hilarious watching him, he'd do it for ages until he felt it was safe to walk away. I've had lots of cats, but he's the only one I've had who's buried his food!

I've seen some of mine try to "bury" their food. What I find even more strange though is Chieve doing this to the water bowl. He rubs his feet, takes a drink, rubs his feet, takes another drink. I'm not sure if its the same as with food....that he's trying to bury it. It reminds me of him trying to clean the area. He and Bean both do this before laying down sometimes too. And Bean does it while I'm preparing canned food for them. I always jokingly ask "Bean, are you cleaning the table off for me?"

    LOL!
My one cat does that usually every time he jumps out of the kitty litter. He scrapes/cleans the floor with his paw. We giggle at him.
Its cute- and silly. (Sometimes he does this to his water bowl) LOL!! :y_the_best:

Haha, my gracie does that. She doesn't dig it out, but she grabs a mouthful, then sets it on the workbench right next to the bowl and eats the food piece by piece.
