need help fast again please

ok so i have an albino cory and hes recently tunred all yellow except for his tail...he looks sick and is acting it
hes in a 5 gallon tank alone for the moment...but i will be addinga goldfish soon...i dont want to do that if he's sick though...and i dont want him to die
im going to do a water change right now
but any advice?

i will be getting a 50 gallon tank set up in 2 months...so id like him to live until then...but any suggestions on what to do about him? he looks really sick...

 

First of all, I wouldn't get any more fish until you have the bigger tank set up.

As for the cory, what are your readings for ammonia, nitrIte, and nitrAte?

ok well i went to go buy the test to go test them but the fish person said not to cuz it wouldnt be worth my money...she said if i have issues to bring a sample to her??? but the water looks foggy...so im going to replace my filter i guess, and i'll try to find out those readings...any suggestions until then?

 

It's much better to have your own tests. That way you know the tests are done right and you don't have to wait for the store to be open to test your water.

Do NOT replace your filter. If you throw out your filter media, you'll throw out all your beneficial bacteria and the tank will have to start the cycle all over again (I'm guessing it's in the middle of cycling right now) and your problems will only get worse.

Start doing daily water changes and get those tests.

ok tests are on my to do list and so much much of a water change should i be doing? and how much should i feed my cory now that theres no fish in there?
should i be worried that have his body is orange and tail white?

 

Can you post a picture of him? Is his body really orange, or kind of a pinkish/reddish?

For daily water changes, I'd be doing about 25% - 30%.

What type food are you feeding him? Pellets? Flakes?

k well hes an albino so his tail is stilll white but his body has tuned orange orange

it sounds like the store that wanted you to bring in a sample just wanted your money! watch out while doing the water changes too many aren't very good for the fish and don't change the filter and the water at the same time. my advise would be for you to get a cheap 10 or 20 gallon tank to keep this fish in till you get the bigger one, and not put any more with it till you get the big one, at least a 30. go to walmart they have the best cheap tank set ups!

 

well my albino is ok but a little stressed becasue i already got a new fish
im getting a 50 gallon really soon...so i hope she'll be ok

also someone just gave me a 5-10 gallon tank of chinese fighting fish today, she said if i didnt tank them theyd get the toilet so now i have a seperate tank with 2 chinses fighting fish...and yes i seperated them, but is there anything that i need to know about them...important stuff?

oh yeah and the place where i got my fish (Petland) the girl sold me aquarium salt water, she said it'll help my tank...so do i just dump it in and turn off my filter so it'll dissolve?
and will that be bad for my albino
and could i use it on the chinese fighting fish
so many questions so little time....

What is the new fish?

Are they both male? Male & female? 2 females?
Give me the dimensions of the tank and I can tell you how many gallons it is.

What exactly do you want to accomplish? There is absolutely no need to add salt to a freshwater tank unless you're trying to treat something.

And for future reference, I'd stop listening to the people at the pet store. 9 times out of 10, they don't know what the heck they're talking about and are only interested in making money.

i have no clue if their male or female but ill look into that i think their male and female though...there doing great...
however my goldfish has velvet i think if that sxists its like theres velvet on her skin and its only getting worse i can tell shes dying and i know its kinda like ich but worse?? but i cant fnd any books on it and hte fish ppl are no help!!! if possible could someone directly email the answer of this to me cuz my internets down and i cant alwys acess this site...so any help asap would be GREATLY apprechiated

Males & females shouldn't be kept together. They can get extremely aggressive towards eachother, especially if one wants to breed and the other doesn't. They could end up killing eachother.

Two females won't be quite as bad, but in such a small tank, there still could be aggression because it's just the two of them and there are no otehr targets to help disperse aggression.

Okay, you REALLY REALLY REALLY need to get those test kits for ammonia, nitrIte, and nitrAte. You have absolutely no way of knowing if your water is safe (chances are it's not) and if you keep adding fish, they'll keep getting sick and dieing. Do NOT buy any more fish until you get those test kits.

Velvet doesn't look like fuzzy stuff. It's like a gold powdery stuff. White fuzzy stuff would probably be columnaris which shoudl be treated with an antibiotic for gram-positive bacteria like Maracyn. HOWEVER, it won't matter how much medicine you throw in the tank if your water quality is bad. Poor water quality causes stress (among other things) which weakens the fish and makes them sick and less able to heal even with meds.

I really can't stress enough how important those test kits are.

OMG! That is ABSOLUTE RUBBISH! I suggest you find a different store to shop at. From the sounds of it, the people there are crooks, don't know squat, and they don't deserve any business.

Like I said in my previous post, you NEED to know what your ammonia, nitrIte and nitrAte readings are. Chances are, THAT'S what's causing the problems that are killing your fish. But without the tests, you have absolutely no idea just how bad it is.

In canada i pay close to $20 for each test kit.
The cheapest one was my ph and it was 12.99.
The rest were around 16.99.

 

Wow. That's still a bit expensive. I suggest looking into Big Als (they're Canadian based). That master test kit is $34.99 (canadian dollars). The individual ones run around $10.

The master test kit that I have and use is $27 at petsmart, but since I live in a major metro area it's probably a bit pricier here than it would be elsewhere.

I can't think of any reason the test kit would be $90. I wouldn't EVER go to that shop again.
