Well, Friday I was drivng past our animal shelter, which is a high kill shelter, and saw this beautiful brindle pit in an outside run and just had to stop and see him...he was the sweetest thing and was in a run with a very annoying yappy female shepherd mix...he took it all in stride. So, bad me, I took Annie up to meet him, and they got along great. He was still sitting there today with his big brown sad eyes...so I of course broke down and begged my landlord to let me go spring him. She said yes, and we have a new member of the family. We still don't have a name for him. His name at the shelter was Looney, which doesn't fit at all. He is wonderfully kind and laid back. He also loves to sit in your lap. Since the first thing Isaid when I saw him, was oh,he looks like a little bear, we thought about naming him Bear, but that's not really original. We're also tossing around Ivan, Snoop and Jack...but we're very open to suggestions since nothing seems to stick just yet. He's 5 years old and neutered...and is absolutely exhausted after playing with Annie all day...I now know we have a dog to rival Annie's snoring now.

Here's a few pics of the boy...he's somewhat hard to photograph in the evening since he's so dark, but it'll give you an idea.

I don't like bear. Teddy, Jack, Dagwood. I liked Ivan

I like sweet names that don't have any connection to anything that can be scary or mean.

    How about Tigger or Chip?

P.S. It is a really bad idea to as for suggestions from the board!!!!

How about ---- Cuddles, or Puddles? or Smiley, or SweetPea, or..............

    :D

Congratulations! Enjoy your new family member!!! :)

Hermann, I agree about not picking a name that sounds mean. I think Bear is cute, the Ivan and Htor sound like mean aggressive names,

I do like Tigger becuase of his stripes :) Bo, Sam, I am guess I am into simple names, Charlie,

I have always like the "human" names for dogs. And names that have a sweet sound to them.

I don't like aggressive, macho, or strong names for breeds that have had problems with their reputations ----- breeds like the rotties, dobes, or pitbulls. Some of these dogs are the sweetest, most loyal family dogs -- with breed reputations that have been ruined by a few.

    Ooh --- I like Lily!! :D

What a sweet name. I am going to jot that down in my perpetual calendar to maybe someday use.

We named our Golden 'Charlie Brown'. Charlie isn't original but we felt adding the Brown made it a little different. And I was (and still am) in love with the Peanuts gang. It was a name that suited an energized puppy and a name that was friendly and welcoming when he did therapy work. And it was a name that he carried well when he aged. We called him 'Mr. Charles' when he got old. He had earned the 'Mr.' title.

WOW what a beautiful dog!!! I know how you feel when they give you that special look and you just fall in love!! I would like to suggest the name "Misha". It is Russian for bear. Congrats on your new addition!!

Thanks for all the name suggestions. He still doesn't have one...but I like taking my time..although Bear is starting to stick since we use it the most. He still doesn't answer to anything, even his real name...so..I don't think it's a problem yet. mamabear...we love Misha...that is definetely near the top of the list now...also considering Dante or Arthur(which means bearlike). We love this dog...he's just wonderful. Here's a pic I took of the kids this morning.

Annie and "Bear" sharing a spot of sun...obviously no food aggression in either.

that is so great they get along and you gave an older dog a new home. Looks like he he is adjusting quite well. Look at that sun, I am so jealous, we have had 38 days of straight downpours :x .

I like Misha, Bear and Aruthur, I love Arthur. Do you have any history on him or was he a stray?

    Wow, he is gorgeous!! Congrats!

I like Bear. I think it is a cute, cuddly name. I guess I don't think of a dangerous bear when I hear it - I think of a teddy bear!

The people at the shelter said he was surrendered. I don't know why though. He came from a house that had a bunch of little dogs that he apparently got along fine with. They also said he was all pit bull and had papers. I'm having a hard time believing it. His head isn't quite right and his hair is a bit on the long side. He may have had papers with some registry, but i'd bet something else is in there somewhere down the line. My fiance is guessing some rott. I don't know, he's super cute regardless. I just couldn't imagine leaving such a wonderful dog at a high kill shelter. He's just so easy. He gets along with everything and everyone so far, he's housebroken and hasn't attempted to eat anything inappropriate. He doesn't seem to like to chew very much. He was also given a large bone like Annie had in the picture, but wasn't interested..he just licked it a few times and walked off..so we had to put it up so Annie wouldn't eat too much bone at once..she gets a little piggy with them. He did pull like a frieght train on leash, but I got a training collar for him and after just a few sessions he's walking quietly by my side on a loose lead. If he was my first pit bull I recommend them for anyone..heheh

He is so beautiful. I love the fact that he got such an awsome family especially since he was in such a desperate situation. I always get my dogs from shelters. I just can't bring myself to get dogs from breeders when soooooooo many wonderful dogs die daily usually just because they had low lifes for owners!
    He is one lucky dog!!!
The pic of them together with their bones is so beautiful you should go to snapfish.com and get some pics done up to frame!
Good luck, I am going to e-mail you!!!
PS I LOVE ARTHUR FOR THE NAME
    KING ARTHUR!!! AND PRINCESS ANNIE
