Cat Waterer or Fountain Question

I bought my cat a Bubbler cat waterer today from petsmart, and she's flat out refusing to drink from it .. she's actually afraid of it, to be honest. Is it reasonable to expect her to warm up to it, or will I be better off taking it back? She's black, and it gets hot here in Georgia, and she needs to stay hydrated .. so her hydration is my #1 concern.

 

Mmm it may take her some time to get used to it, new things and cats, they are sooooo used to the same Routine, I'v just changed my cats food bowls over from plastic to stainless steal ones, and Jasper took one look and ran off ROFL :lol: :lol:

He did come back to it, because he was hungry :lol:
but aproached it very very slowely, like something was going to jump out at him from it lol.. :lol:
Jay my other cat took it in his stride, saw it was new and didn't bother, he loves his food to much..

So maybe it might take time for her, when she gets thirsty enough, but yea keep an eye on her that she isn't going to long without a drink.

 

Yes, thanks, that's what I thought. Whenever I go into the kitchen, she gets up and follows ahead of me as if trying to protect me from it! I found the little knob that regulates the bubble control, and so it doesn't make as much bubble noise, but the motor still makes a bit of a rumbling sound.

 

Yea its probably the movement and noise of it that is scaring her, once she knows its not going to hurt her, or jump out at her, she'l probably love it..

hmmm...the pump shouldn't be noisey. Are you sure that you have enough water in it? Low water level will cause a pump to make noise.

 

With Razzy, coz he can't see, anything new i do i find that if i introduce it -with me there- helps alot. Like plant yourself by the water thing and maybe play in it a bit. let her drink the wetness off your hand then run your hand around the rim for scent and assuridness(that a word? lol)

Course, i have to stay there talking to him and consoling him until he's sure. But Luckily (sometimes it's not a good thing -.-) he's naturally very confident and curious so getting him used to things doesnt take too long.

It's not the pump that makes noise, it's the motor bit that runs the pump. I changed the water so that it only bubbles a bit and doesn't make crazy bubbling noises, but the motor still purrs barely audibly.

Thanks for the replies! I'm hoping she's getting used to it .. I'm not around 24/7 though, so I have no idea if she's had any water yet.

 

place a regular bowl of water near the pumping one (not RIGHT next to it but fairly close)

that way she can still get her water which she needs, and get used to the sounds of the new one. Slowly move the 2 bowls closer together then remove the regular one after a bit and she should be fine.

Kitties can be so silly. Sabrina refused to eat out of her new spiffy stainless steel bowl. I gave in to her highness though and she still has the plastic one. Oh well....you choose your battles, don't ya?
