Question

I have noticed for a while now that when my two poms gets really excited they get what sounds like the dry heaves. Its not all the time just sometimes when we come in the door they are running all around and jumping on us. They dont do this at all while they are playing or running around just when they get really excited to see us. Does anyone else have this problem, do you think I should take them to the vet? I would have already but it just seems to be when we get in the door. It doesnt last too long but its starting to worry me. Any adivce would be appreciated.

 

Sebastian (toy poodle) does this sometimes too, both of my dogs also sneeze when they get excited....I've never thought anything of it though. Maybe you can just mention it at your next vet visit to see what the vet thinks.

Bailey does that sometimes also..... it's more of a wheeze/cough, than a heaving sound. But, it's definitely when he gets super excited and worked up. Once he calms down, he's fine.... it doesn't really happen that often though.

 

I think I heard somewhere this has something to do with the weather and the trachea. of course this applies to coming from cooler air into the warmer air of the house

 

Weather can play a roll ,but then so can excitement ..best just to discuss with your vet the possibility of what causes it in your pet .
