Hey folks been awhile since Ive been onboard with any probs. Been kinda lucky I guess.

Yesterday evening I noticed my big 15 pound approx 5 yr old male cat was acting sluggish. He didnt come to the morning or evening feedings that everyone else does. He was hacking a single crooping sound a couple of times an hour which has since stopped. But the main thing is his ears are warm to the touch, took a temp this morning and he is at least 102.5 in the ears, which I think is about a degree above normal. He kept going in and out of the litter box last night and a few times he just hung out in there. I think only once did he actually urinate. He does not yelp when he goes in there like a couple of my other cats have done in the past who maybe are straining to go but could not. Sometimes he goes to an odd area of the house and squats like he "needs to go". Also every couple of hours he is dry heaving a white milky colored liquid/foam. Not a lot, just a little, but the energy he puts into the heave makes it appear he wants do alot more. I looked at his genital area last night when I first suspected a prob and there was a little blood in the area, but that too has disappeared. I have kinda squeezed a bit in that area to see if I can feel a full bladder, but I dont sense one and he doesnt complain when I do it. So I am rather puzzled. I just hope he is not blocked up and of course it HAS TO BE THE WEEKEND when emergcy vets cost a fortune. I am going to bring him in 1st thing tomorrow morning and hope by delaying this over 24 hours since onset that I dont cause permanent damage. I have rubbed an icecube tucked in a paper towl over his head and ears to cool him down at least temporarily.

Other than spending a fortune and bringing him to emergcy clinic today, anyone have any advice to share, especially if you have dealt with similar circumstances?

Will chk forum later for hopefully some good insight.thanks!

That DOES NOT sound like a UTI to me! He indeed sounds blocked up and needs to see a vet ASAP! My cats have both had UTIs and didn't sound that sick.

Thanks for the replies. He was indeed blocked up, been on catheter since Monday morning but removed it today and seems to be passing urine ok, so that is good news and he seems like he's feeling better, but they want to check his bloodwork before letting him go home. At least he is eating their crappy food too LOL! Good thing I didnt wait another day or 2 he had alot of blood in his urine at 1st, now more normal colored. Male cats are a pain! But he is sweet and very handsome, very well behaved, they love him, and so he was worth saving despite the probably 500 dollar bill I'm gonna get.

I'm glad you got him to the vet and he's on the mend. Will he be on special food now?
