How do I get him to stop?

My cat has started peeing on our futon. He is 4 years old, and has never had this problem before. He is strictly an indoor cat and a couple of months ago he got out and was gone for 2 weeks. Within this time we got a female kitten. They get along fairly well, so I am not sure if this has anything to do with the problem. Anyone have any suggestions on how to put a stop to this problem?

Welcome to the forums! Cats often "act out" like this when they have something medically wrong with them . It's best to take him to a vet to rule out or treat any urinary tract problems. Good luck!

You also need to clean the area that he peed on thoroughly. I suggest Oxy-clean. You can add that to the wash and I would soak the futon cover for a while.

If you have introduced another cat into the household, I would say he is marking his territory. This is quite common in this situation, he is showing the new cat that the futon is 'his' space. After removing the smell, try rubbing a lemon on the spot. Cats dislike citrus. But until he fully gets used to the new cat, keep an eye on where he is marking.
