my kitty is 5 weeks old and last night she got the runs with a dot of fresh blood in it...should i be worried? So far i've had her for 4 days.. and im just really concerned. And should i feed her dry or wet food to help with the runs problem? :?
    thanks....

I think that you should take her to a vet ASAP.

Her digestive tract probobly isn't properly developed yet. She was weaned way too early...wet cat food won't help with the runs ( especially beef I find) but she should definetly see a vet.

Hi and welcome to Auspet. Each time I got a new cat I always took them to the vet right away to make sure they were okay health wise. I think it would be a good idea to schedule a vet appointment for your kitty. It would be helpful if you took a stool sample to the vet with you.

After you find out what is causing his diarrhea, your kitten will benefit from a diet that has soft and hard food. Vets make money off of selling Science Diet food and I personally don't think it's a good food. I do like Wellness hard and soft food, but there are a lot of other good brands out there. Basically when you read the ingredients make sure the first things on the list are a meat, not meat by products, corn and other fillers. Keep us updated.

Nutro is another good brand of food out there. They are relatively new, but the ingredients are good, and they are cheap. I feed my dogs, cat, and possums Natural Choice and they are all doing very well.

:m23: and welcome! A vet check is in order if you haven't already done so. When I had 5 week old kittens, I gave them scheduled KMR and wet foods . In addititon, I gave them dry, finely crushed food so they can eat and digest it easier. I placed the dry food near their water so they can have it whenever they are hungry. Kittens can get dehydrated and go down hill real fast with diarrhea so a vet check really is necessary. As other posters said, premium foods will help with the runs. Good luck and keep us posted.

wow 5 week! She should still be with her mom. Could be anything from an illness to food.

    Welcome to the Board snowhite.

I gree with the other posters and the only thing I can think to add is that once our kitty is checked by the Vet and you've found the food that your kitty can tolerate, it is best not to suddenly change brands. I know if I change the brand of food for my kitties, they can get diarrhea.
