just a few quick questions....

I come home from work yesterday and a guy came to my house and told me that his dog had gotten out of his yard and he found it in my yard with my dog and they were stuck together! (i thought just what i need a bunch of shepard/pit mixes) but he said his dog isnt in heat anymore, she just finished a week or two ago. and i didnt think that they would mate when the bitch wasnt in heat. if they actually did is there a chance she is pregnant? the guy seeme to be convinced that she will be and tried to insist that i had to take half the puppies!

 

First of all, the man may not have a clue as to how long a bitch is in heat, and just assumes that when she's not bleeding anymore she's no longer in heat. Which is wrong. I seriously doubt she'd have been receptive to him if she were not still in heat, but one never knows, do one?

Second of all, in no way should you be responsible for half the puppies, should she be pregnant. For one thing, the two dogs may not have mated at all, and he's just looking for someone to shoulder half the blame and expense. If you didn't see it yourself, how do you know he's telling the truth? But even if he is, and your dog is going to be a daddy, who's fault is it that he allowed his bitch to get free and go visiting? Not yours. If he didn't want pups, he should have been more careful with his bitch.

Last of all, if he really doesn't want pups, he should have talked to his vet about the options. Like having a mismating shot.

It wouldn't hurt to get your dog neutered either.

 

yeah it wouldnt hurt to get him fixed, but i like him the way he is and i dont plan to do that to him. the last dog i did that too totally changed after i did that. he became a lazy worthless dog in my opinion. all he did was sleep and eat. if i did that to rowdie he would probably do the same thing. he is lazy enough as it is..........

 

I own Multiple pit bulls and all are fixed. Its the responsible thing to do!!!


NONE of my dogs are "lazy and worthless". So you are saying that all people that have fixed dogs actually have "Worthless" dogs?

All of my dogs are very atheltic dogs. I do spend quality time with them taking them on daily walks and exercise them.

i didnt say that all fixed dogs were worthless, i just said that in my past experiance fixing dogs makes them more lazy and i dont want a lazy dog. I have a good dog the way he is and dont want to change anything about him, i was just asking a question and apperantly none of you seem to know the answer.

 

Nope, we would be giving a guess. How can anyone know that answer on a forum? Try a vet for the real answers

 

rowdie rowdie rowdie ](*,) neutering doesnt make dogs lazy. if it did every male dog on the planet would be a roly poly couch potato and well, i dont see that happening. there is no reason whatsoever for your dog to be intact. you arent a registered breeder, your dog isnt breeding quality and there are no medical conditions preventing neutering. by the way, dont think that by not neutering you will be guaranteed a lively dog. all dogs, intact or not, begin to slow down at a certain age and well, sleeping and eating does become a big part of their lives. they arent puppies forever and other things can influence personality.

this year a good friend of kumas got neutered. hes about 1 to 2 years old. because he has an excellent pedigree they left it late because they were unsure whether to breed him or not. before the op he was very athletic, lean and lively, best looking lab i have EVER seen. loved to run around with kuma non stop and comes back for more even when shes had enough. after the op he is STILL the same dog as before. nothing has changed except for his obsessive humping and guarding of kuma. in fact, i think it has made him more sociable towards other dogs so he gets to play even more! now tell me, is that a lazy dog?

 

We Fixed our male Rotti and it did quieten him down as far as "Wanting to rome" Useless, NO, WORTHLESS, BIG NO.. Those are very harsh words to say... If you keep your dog exercised, good diet, good training then there is no chance he'l lose "Quality of life"... Its not your fault what happened, as the bitch came into your yard..So in my eyes you are not responsible for the pups.. But I can see already that these pups are going to suffer, and thats the sad thing about it all..

 

Rowdie, I did attempt to answer your question. Perhaps I wasn't blunt enough. So in plain English; yes, it's possible the bitch is pregnant. It is impossible to say if she's pregnant by your dog, by some other dog, or by a whole bunch of other dogs. And because she came into YOUR yard, you are not legally responsible for the puppies. Moral responsibility is another question. But again, you have no way of knowing if she's pregnant at this time, nor do you have any way of knowing who Daddy is.

 

Yes the female could be pregnant. He may not know exactly how long she is in heat, some females have longer cycles and some are fertile during different times. If she has been out a few weeks She could be at the end of her heat cycle and still fertile.

You have no responsibility to take care of half the pups, both of you are irresponsible with your pets but it is the owner of the female whether that person is a breeder or pet owner with an accident who owns the litter. Unless he were to take you to court and get judges orders, which is highly unlikely.

Also neutering a dog doesn't make them fat/lazy, overfeeding and not excersizing a dog makes it fat and lazy. There are plenty of altered dogs that do Schutzhund, Agility, Flyball, ect and they are far from lazy and have very lean nice muscle. People say this all the time about their dogs and its not true. My spayed female had loads of energy and she was far from fat. Both of you need to be more responsible with unaltered dog. He shouldn't have his female getting free to roam around and you shouldn't have your male where he can breed with any passing by female or stray or can possibly get free and find a female. I would try a fence or kennel if you haven't already invested in one.
