I took taz to the vet today
over the past few months he seem to be loosing weight
when I got him back 2 years ago he was a hefty 15 LBS
to day at the vet he was 10 LBS & 10 oz

they took bolod & did some tests

tas has kindny failure there slowly going & there is nothing I can do to fix this only slow it down
he is on med & has speical food I have to go back to the vet in 2 weeks for more blood work has anyone else gone through this with there cat?
taz is 13 he will be 14 in june If he makes it that long

my sister in law went through this & her cat was gone in 2 weeks
I can not bear to think of life with out my baby I love him so much
& it pains me that over these pase few weeks he has changed so much

he used to sit with me on the couch & now does not he also used to sleep with me & now does not he spends much of his time on my son's bed where he has a fleece blanket
I think he is trying to make up for the body mass that he has lost with the weight

he also does not play with emily anymore he is so different

    what should I do

I'm sorry for what you're going through. I went through something similar when my beloved kitty was diagnosed with diabetes at age 7. I just kept her comfortable and when I knew it was time, I brought her in to the vet and held her as she passed. It was heartbreaking to go through.

My thoughts are with you and Taz.

It's so hard when our kitties suffer and are in ill health. I'm sorry your kitty is not feeling well. Our pets are part of our family. The only thing I can suggest is just to be there for your Taz and give him lots of love which I'm sure you do. Take care. Keep us posted.

I'm so sorry to hear Taz is sick. I don't have any experience with this myself, so all I can do is to wish you both the best of luck.

I'm so sorry that Taz is going through kidney failure. I went through this with our first kitty. He lost tons of weight and when we brought him to the vet we were told he had end stage renal failure and that there's basically nothing we can do for him. Our kitty stopped eating and drank furiously. He would go to his litter box and miss and urinated on the bed in his last few days. We tried to keep him with us a while longer but it was very painful to watch him suffer and we ultimately had him put to sleep. It was one of the hardest things we had to do. What stage of kidney failure is Taz at? If he's in the early stages, he can still be treated with iv fluids and meds. Thinking of you and Taz. *HUGS*

I'm so sorry for Taz. :( That is so sad. If he was my cat I would try whatever the vet recommends and then see how he responds. I wish him all the best. Poor guy. :(

    hello
thank you all for being so helpful

well we are on a different food we were useing the hill SD K/D food but he would not even touch the stuff

he is also on a appitte drug to make him hungery
the new food is made by purina NF I put some on a dish & he ate a lot!
thank good ness because he is too thin as it is
I want him to gain weight now loose it
he weights in at 10 LBS 10 OZ I hope he does better on this food

he is in the beginning stages judging by his blood work, so If all goes well I could get 1 - 4 years with him depending on how he does
    thanks again to everyone
I will keep you all posted on how he is doing

Hi. If you want to try natural alternatives, you can call a local holistic vet and ask them what they think of this particular product. There are just so many scams out there. It's hard to know what works and what doesn't.

Kathy, I'm sorry to hear about Taz.
My cat Bones has kidney disease (he's 13 now), when it was first diagnosed the vet put him on a newish drug called Fortekor, I don't know if you can get it where you are because it seems to only be used in Europe, but it might be worth asking your vet about it.

My vet said he might last a few months but some can last years after diagnosis, that was 3 years ago (nearly to the day) and Bones has had 4 blood tests over those years that have shown no worsening of his kidneys at all, and he seems to be healthier than ever right now, other than drinking lots you would never know hes sick. He's having more tests later this month, I have my fingers crossed as always.

One thing I learnt recently is that some cats with kidney problems get acid reflux and can prefer to eat and drink without having to bend down as the bending down can trigger it (and I'd imagine this makes eating a bit off-putting) , Bones has this and he always drinks from the top of his water fountain rather than the bottom like the others do, you might want to raise the food/water dishes a little just in case.

Bones also has a supplement in his food called Ipakitine, I can't remember exactly what it does but its cheap and he has it everyday.

What medication is Taz on for his kidneys?

    hi
    thank you for your advice

as of right now he was on speical food for his kidney but he has sence stoped eating it & rather than have him starve the vet told me to put him on the food he was eating befor which as of now he is not eating much of that either.

he goes in for more blood work next thursday & if it comes back worse than the first set of tests meaing that he is not getting any better but worse than I will have him put to sleep

this breaks my heart I love him so much but I must do what is best for him
