Seems that they're finding issues with Rice protein and Corn Gluten on top of the Wheat Gluten issues folks were having... This is affecting dry dog food as well as wet and Hogs are involved in the Rice Protein issue. All of this stuff is showing to contain the fated Melamine. Crosspost this widely....

Keep an eye out on that first link I'd imagine that's the best one to watch.

Royal Canin has just announced a recall on their Sensible Choice foods, due to possible contamination. They haven't had any reports of sick pets as yet, but they choose not to take any chances.

They've also announced they will no longer use and food products imported from China.

I also read today that the FDA has finally decided to open a criminal investigation about this. Apparently they've found the same contaminant in hog food, and the hogs have already been sold for slaughter, which means it's made it's way into the human food chain.

    Very scary indeed.

wow, that makes me even more glad i rarely eat meat. but if it makes its way into chicken, i'm dead. i thought about putting my dogs on the BARF diet after all this, but Nutro has managed to stay clean, and i looked at the cost. 2 months of raw food would've been about as much as i spend on dry food per year for the two of them.

If this stuff becomes widely distributed into animal feed, rather than just pet foods, even raw food won't be safe. And considering the number of supersite toxic waste dumps there are around the country, even "organically" grown products may not be as safe as one might think.

Our world is becoming more toxic all the time. I fear there is worse to come.

That's why I posted originally, because livestock is being affected.

I'm not too terribly concerned about livestock feed. Personally i mix my own. SOoo doesn't really bother me about my animals. now others. Definatly.

Purina has sent me several emails ensuring me that their dry products are 100% safe. I'm staying far far away from any brand of canned food and I have premade dog food in the freezer just in case.

I got about 25lbs of hamberger meat and made up some modified satin balls. LOL

Yeah I'm about THIS close to being OVER the edge and going all raw...but with so many dogs...it'd drive us into the poor house I'm afraid. So far none of what I'm feeding has been remotely close to the recall list. I worry about our food sources though...I don't eat pork anyway but if it's in Pork who's to say it's not in our beef.
