Hello everyone. I just signed up today after a 2 day search online that i can not get answers to.

Two years ago a wild cat use to come around my house. There were many but this one always came a little closer than the rest. After seeing me countless times it got brave and approached the bottom stairs. It would hiss at me when i opened the door and run away.

I found it funny since it was my darn house! lol
I was a smoker then and i would always sit on the stairs to smoke instead of in the house. The cat would meow at me from a distance but when i got close it hissed and went away. I started leaving food for it and i made sure it was eating.

And one day as i was sitting on the porch the cat walked up to me and sat in my lap. It was wild so i was cautious while petting it. The next day it came back again and sat in my lap. I picked it up and walked around with it. It acted like a regular house cat. It was strange.
This became our daily ritual and it also became my pet. It did not want to live in the house. I tried and it hated it. But it never left the yard once it became my buddy. In the winter it slept in the heated garage on really cold nights, but for the most part it insisted on being out doors.

When i came home it greated me everyday for its 15 minute petting. It stayed on the porch, layed under my car and under the bushes. Eventually it warmed up to all people and let anyone pet it that came around. Last week it i came home from work and i was not greeted.
This happened for three days and i became very worried as i grew attached to this cat in a strange way. ( im not a cat person by the way) lol.
I just liked this one a lot.

The next day i came home and there it was laying in the grass. Its breathing was a little fast and the cat looked exhausted. The left eye was filled with stuff and i wasnt sure if it had an eye..It wouldnt get up for nothing but it tried to meow at me. It sounded like phlem when it did. My heart sunk when i saw the cat like this.

That night i stayed up all night and constantly checked on it. I finally got the cat to stand up after calling it many many times. It drank water and ate a little. I didnt want to pick it up because i wasnt sure what was wrong, if it was hurt or what not. I grabbed a blanket and laid it down.

It got up and looked like it was drunk. It staggered to the blanket and fell. I lifted it up with the blanket and put it inside. The next morning it seemed much better.
The eye was half open and clearing up. The breathing was more steady and it drank a lot of water. The next day things were even better and by the third the cat was walking around eating normal and back in the lap. The next two days it was the same. It was back under the car and being its old self. The next day i came home and no greeting. I asked the neghbor if she saw the cat and she said. "Yes. It was in my driveway.I talked to it and it just looked away as to ignore me"

We walked down the driveway and there was the cat, dead in the bushes.
It broke my heart to see it there. Especially after thinking it was better. There was no blood in the stool, no broken bones but its back end was unstable. ( that was the only thing that was noticable besides the sound of the meow) even that cleared up after a few days. Almost like it was slighty drunk. All that cleared up tho. Then it was dead. I buried the cat and have been searching for anything similar to this online, but found nothing. I realize she was a wild cat and liked the dangerous life over the one i tried to provide for it. I did what i could to make it a happy cat but i feel bad.

That was a very touching story but I am afraid you might never find out what caused its death. I am so sorry for your loss. Just be glad you were able to enjoy it as long as you did and made a little cat happy. The only way you could have found out what it had , would have been to have an autopsy done.

Hi and welcome to Auspet. I agree with Ushyna. The only way to know would be to have an autopsy done. I'm sorry for your loss. :( You seemed to really care for this cat. Perhaps you could go to your local shelter someday and adopt a cat that really needs a loving, kind person like you? There are so many cats that need a good forever home. Just a thought.

I'm so sorry for your loss. You were very kind to take the kitty in and care for her. Adopting a cat may help you fill that void in your heart. You may just find one that has the same personalities as your original cat. I did. After I lost Vene, I found Rene.

it was nice of you to care for the cat....you should have take him/her to the vet to end its suffering.
No idea what it was but it sounds like the cat was really really sick. Cats don't show their pain so if this cat was acting like that it was in bad shape.
At least in the time she/he learned to trust you things improved for this kitty....food/water, heated garage for cold nights, a lap to enjoy now and then - it's much more than many kitties out there get.

Wow thats just fantasyc of you to do this for that kitty, Im so sorry too that kitty passed away, thats very very unusual for something like that to happen, maybe a dog attack or something like that perhaps??? There will be no way now to find out what happened, very happy sad posts.
Pity there isnt more people around to care like this.
