Hi! you guys probobly dont remember me. I was on here last probobly a year ago. any way, anytime I go up to my birds cage, she backs away from me in a frantic motion. Then whenever I trie to hold her she scolds me! I have had her for 2 years this past spring. I thought parakeets loved to be held. Why is she doing this? Am I doing anything wrong?

Hi female parakeets as they mature become territorial and do not like it being invaded.

For her to back away frantically means she is scared of you, either you are going to her to quickly or when you have tried to hold her before you have unintentionally hurt her and she remembers.

My advice would be to start all over again, following these steps

Place hand in the cage but do not go near her just hold it there for 5minutes talking softly and calmly, then remove your hand and close the cage.

About 30minutes later do the same, do this couple of times per day and each day slowly move a little closer until the day you can gently rub your finger against her chest.
Once you can do this gently press against her chest using a simple phrase like step up, eventually she will start and step up onto your finger.

Also having some of her favourite treats like millet spray or fruit in you hand and allow her to eat it from you hand this will re-enforce positive feelings....

    Do not rush her.

its kind of hard because she only likes millet spray and wont even touch fruit, veggies, or event treats from the store. I almost feel like she doesnt like me. Is it becasue I took her to get her wings clipped? Cause one time when I did they cut it to short and her wings bled a little.

It sounds to me like you have an overly agressive female, They do not like being touched when they are going through a molt or when they are broody and wanting to breed.

i would try the method i mentioned for a couple of weeks and if still no luck then it sounds like she will never want to be held.

As for the fruit and veggies, what i did was last thing at night before i went to bed was removed there seed dish then on the morning i replaced it with a small amount of chopped apple, grapes, cabbage and carrots. I would leave it in tehre cages for about 2 hours then throw it out and replace with there seeds.

Some birds never eat fruit or veg as they just do not like trying new things, This is why i always say start them on fruit and veg at a very young age because they are more likely to try it...

As for the wing clipping i can not see it being that causing her behavioural problems.

Ok. Thanks for your help. I just felt frusturated because I got her so I could have a pet and interact with her, and she doesnt want anything to do with me.But thank you for the advice. :)
