I was interested in geting 2 or 3 cory cats to clean up my tank. I was woundering what your favorite cory cat was and a little bit about them( size, coloration, if they're active, ect). I have a 45gal tank with a 5 inch sailfin pleco and a bolivian ram, but I am soon going to add some more cichlids. I'm looking for a fairly large spieces ( 3" and up) that is very active and loves to dig! I think it would be so fun to watch them dig around as they search for food!!! Thanx for any info you can share!!!

I think I had a cory cat in my first tank. I was only 12 I think, so I dont really remember, but I dont think they get very big. Probably only 2.5 inches max. They are pretty active though, always moving around the bottom of the tank- mine did anyway. Sorry I cant be more helpful for you.

    hi

    hiya,

well, my boyfriend thinks he isa cat fish.
He houses 9 cat fish i think.

salt and pepper corys etc. there not 3 inches. about an inch.

They scavenge and swim mid range occationaly.
    They appear really hardy.

He has a nocternal catfish (Humbug) that is definatly 3 inches+.
This fish will grow and grow to over 2 foot aparently and eat everything in its path.

    Take care.

    Amy.

I pretty much agree with J_acon, all cories are basically the same, just different sizes & colors. They're really peaceful, pretty good scavengers, and prefer to be in groups.

I have a couple emerald catfish which are really similar to bronze cory cats, but they have more green (and they're not technically cories). They're supposed to get about 3".

I also recently bought some pygmy cories (C. habrosus) for my fry tank. They only max out at a little over 1" so they won't work for your tank, but if anyone else is looking for cories for small tanks, I recommend these guys. The only problem is they're not very common.

Thanx guys for all the responses!!!

I went to my lfs yesterday and I got 2 black-spotted corydoras and another kind of cory cat (they only had 2 black-spotted corydoras so I couldn't get a third one!). The misc. cory cat looks the same, but it's coloration is different. It had two dark brown/black stripes that run down its body, one on each side, from its mouth through his eyes all the way down to its tail. Its body color is lighter as well, like that of T-Chelle's pigmies. I'm gunna do some research and try to find out what it is and I 'll post any info that I can find.
