I was told this is the best food for dogs with alergy problems because of its limited yet quality ingredients. Has anyone used it for dogs with an alergy? Which type? I feed my dog Chicken Soup (chicken and rice) right now. Is it worth the switch?

    Also, what about Innova?

What about Innova? Has anyone tried that dry food? One thing I didn't like about Cali. Natural was the Chicken Meal being the main ingredient.

My mother has fed Chicken Soup for the dog lovers Soul for years now and has had great luck with it. Her Chi has allergies and gets siezures. I'd reccomend it definately.

My dogs eat California Natural and they are doing great at it. It has the shortest ingredient list and that means less chances to be allergic. I love it! My dogs was not allergic to anything but they were being fed puppy chow by their previous family and i thought that was yuck!

chicken soup is a good product, but a ton of ingredients, so if you are having problems I would go withe Claif Natural and probably the lamb one since chicken could be an allergen.

Calif nautrual is an excellant food for allergies, here are their ingredients.

like noted below chicken meal is better than just plain chicken because you get more chicken/protein, than if it were to just say chicken

    Chicken Meal
Chicken meal is the dry rendered (cooked down) product from a combination of clean flesh and skin with or without accompanying bone, derived from the parts of whole carcasses of chicken -- exclusive of feathers, heads, feet, or entrails.

Chicken meal is considered to be the single best source of protein in commercial pet foods. Natura uses high-quality, low ash chicken meal extensively. This ingredient is very digestible, very palatable, and very expensive.

    Brown Rice
    Rice
Rice, unless listed as brown rice, is the de-hulled rice kernel, without the bran -- known as white rice.

Rice, in its whole form, is a high quality source of carbohydrates, protein and fiber. This is in contrast to fractionated grain ingredients used by some manufacturers such as rice polishings, rice bran, or brewers rice which have been leeched of much of their nutrient value.

Natura uses whole rice, which is the most easily digested grain and the least likely to cause allergic reactions. It is an antidiarrheal and helps lower cholesterol. Natura also uses brown rice, which is the same plant with the bran intact.

    Sunflower Oil
Sunflower oil is obtained by extracting oil from sunflower seeds.

Sunflower oil has a high concentration of linoleic acid (73%), which is important for good skin and coat health. Natura uses sunflower oil that has been cold-pressed and protected from exposure to heat and light. This very high quality, very palatable fat is used in California Natural and Innova formulations.

    Flaxseed
Flaxseed is the whole seed of the flax plant.

What makes flaxseed so outstanding is its mix in both soluble and insoluble fiber. Together these fibers aid in digestion and help to prevent constipation, thereby offering protection against cancer. Flaxseed is also an excellent source of Omega 6 and Omega 3 essential fatty acids. These fatty acids help produce the soft, luxuriant coat on your pet for which Natura is known. The richest source of alpha-linoleic acid is found in flaxseed.

    Natural Flavors
Natural flavors are minimally processed flavor ingredients that do not contain synthetic or artificial components.

In the Natura products that include "natural flavor" in the formula, the exact composition is proprietary. However, it is always made from the same animal species on which the formula is based. For example, the "natural flavor" used in the original EVO formula contains a reduction of chicken meat - much the same process as is employed to create a chicken stock in your home kitchen.

    Potassium Chloride
A chemical compound, KCl, a colorless or white, cubic, crystalline compound that closely resembles common salt (sodium chloride). It is soluble in water, alcohol, and alkalies.

Potassium plays various roles in metabolism and body functions. It assists in the regulation of the acid-base balance and water balance in the blood and the body tissue. It assists in protein synthesis from amino acids and in carbohydrate metabolism.

    Salt
Salt is a natural mineral, necessary for life and good health.

Salt provides several essential nutrients, such as sodium and chloride, as well as important trace minerals. The average sodium level in our food and treats is currently 0.9 g/Mcal, which is considered low by industry standards, but still supplies the nutrients your pet’s body requires.

    Vitamins
Vitamins are organic compounds that function as parts of enzyme systems essential for the transmission of energy and the regulation of metabolisms of the body.

AAFCO regulates minimum standard quantities of vitamins in levels that pets need to survive. All pet food manufacturers supplement their products with vitamins. Beyond meeting these minimum requirements, all Natura products contain a complete vitamin and mineral supplement program that helps pets to thrive, not just survive.

Included in our foods are some of the following vitamins and minerals: Ascorbic Acid, Beta Carotene, Biotin, Calcium Carbonate, Calcium Iodate, Choline Chloride, Cobalt Carbonate, Cobalt Proteinate, Copper Proteinate, d-Calcium Pantothenate, Dicalcium Pantothenate, dl-Methionine, Folic Acid, Iron Proteinate, Manganese Proteinate, Niacin, Potassium Chloride, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride, Riboflavin, Thiamine Mononitrate, Vitamin A Supplement, Vitamin B12 Supplement, Vitamin C Supplement (Sodium Ascorbate), Vitamin D3 Supplement, Vitamin E Supplement (Alpha Tocopherol), Zinc Proteinate

Natura adds these important vitamins and minerals, in proper balance to its foods to ensure that your pet gets all the necessary nutrients for life and good health every day.

    Minerals
Minerals are inorganic substances essential for a host of vital processes within the body.

AAFCO regulates minimum standard quantities of minerals in levels that pets need to survive. All pet food manufacturers supplement their products with minerals. Beyond meeting these minimum requirements, all Natura products contain a complete vitamin and mineral supplement program that helps pets to thrive, not just survive. The minerals Natura uses are chelated, providing three to ten times greater assimilation than common minerals.

    Rosemary Extract
Rosemary is an evergreen shrub of Rosemarinus Officinalis.

Rosemary, along with its cancer prevention properties, is a highly effective preservative.

    Thanks for the info..

I didn't know that about Chicken meal, I always thought Chicken was better. But since you explained it, now I can see why. My dog really loves the Chicken Soup, I 'm just hoping he eats the Cal. Natural just as well.

another thing, dont make the swtich cold turkey, it can cause big digestive problems you want to try gradually over 30 days. Start out 3/1 chicken soup 7-10 days, then 2-1 and whole swtich.

And Calif Natural because of no fillers, they require a lot less. example a 50# dog gets 2 - 2 1/2 cups a day. So you want to factor that in when transitioning or else you will end up with a fat dog!

Yes it is a good food for dogs with allergies. There are several on the market that are better for allergies. What is your dog allergic too?

On Innova is made by the same company-natura and is a good food too, as far as allergies go it has more ingredients so there is higher likelihood that the dog could have a reaction to something in it. For kibble I think natura's products are all very good quality, they have good standards in place. For kibble I like to rotate my foods and I was disappointed that the Evo red meat has eggs in it, but what can you do, it is still a very good food.

    Were really not sure exactly..

Were really not exactly sure what he is alergic too.. The vet. suggested the Natural because he said he has seen it really help with the itching of the paws and ears. I'm just getting him completely switched over so I haven't seen too much improvement yet. But hopefully it works out well.
