My kiitty keeps vomitting up white foam and won't eat

My kitty was fine until aobut 4 days ago. He is aobut 10-12 years old...he was a stray, so we aren't sure. He has alwyas had a problem with hairballs, so at first, i didn't worry, but then he stopped eating and drinking...he gags and vomits a lot. We took him to an old school vet who said he was on his deathbed and to put him down. Another vet today was optomistic. She injected him with subcutaneous fluid, antospasmodic, and a med to coat the stomach. He is resting now and seems more peaceful. Tomorrow, if he feels better and can keep things down, we are to administer liquid versions of the meds above. I preay this works...he is my beloved Snowball - never sick a day in his life. He coat is still lustrous, his eyes are clear, his teeth are good and his heart is fine. They didn't do xrays or bloodwork, but will have to if he doens't get better. I am praying he responds to this and gets better. We got a new kitten 2 months ago...could this have something to do with it ?? The kitten is healthy, except it had fleas and worms. Hi. I'm glad you saw another vet. I don't think it had anything to do with the new kitten. Eventually all living things end up having medical problems at some point. I hope he feels better soon. Keep us posted.

snowball is doing better

He is being treated for an intestainal blockage...he needs to go back today for an xray , but the vomitting has stopped and he is walking about and is hydrated now. I will keep you posted...thanks for your concern. He is a great cat. Rm

 

snowball is on the road to recovery

hi everyone....snowballs barium xray turned out fine...he is eating now and back at home and purring and feeling much better. apparently his stomach was in so much distress, he couldn't keep anything down or even want to eat. He is much better now. soon he will be back to his regular self...thanks - snowball thanks you too - purr

Snowball is eating dry food again and drinking water on his own - he is grooming and purring agian...I owe a lot to the great vets who helped him and the meds they gave him. Have a great weekend everyone...RM

snowball has inflammatory bowel disease and is responding great to prednisolone - so if your cart has similar symptoms, don't give up...one vet we went to wanted to put him down, dept saying there was nothing he could do - other vet treated him and he is thriving...it is very treatable and we are very happy RM

 

Hi. That is great news. I'm glad he is doing better. I would call the other vet who said you should have him put to sleep and let him know that is doing well. Sometimes people can learn from their mistakes. Perhaps he won't be so quick to suggest this to another person who brings in their sick animal.

 

My Patches who is 14 years old has inflammatory Bowel Disease and is also on prednislone and is doing much better!! She lost half of her body weight in less than a year.... ( I thought she was just old and you know...) She used to weigh 14 pounds she was down to 7.8 when she was diagnosed. We just had a check up yesterday and she is up to 8.2 now!!! eating special food now as well.

Just FYI with animals that are on prednislone (steroids) have a more likelihood of getting illnesses.... from what my vet said that since we are suppressing her immune system for the IBD she can get ill more. The vet put her on L-Lysine paste to increase her immune system with amino acids.
