Cowboy and Anevay Got New "Digs"

Some of you may remember but Anevay came to us from anouther sanctuary that lost its funding and could no longer keep a number of their animals. He was a fairly new addition coming from an abusive situation in a zoo before hand. And so needless to say Anevay is our least friendly of all the big cats. He is the only cat that needs to be fully sedated to be handled or vetted at all. Which is why for the last year or so we have kept him in a smaller enclosure close to the house so maybe he would adapt. But it really has seemed to do no good at all. He still occasionally rushes the fence and is always a growly mess. So just a week ago my hubby finnished Anevays very own enclosure which is set back far on the property with plenty of cover and climbing trees with lots of space.

I think he likes it.


So when we get in very young cubs of any species for about the first year they are raised in our home. At about 6 months we started to transition Cowboy out into a small enclosure just outside the house. Leaving him out there more and more time until he was staying out there over night. Now that he is a year old and its spring just two days ago we introduced him to his very own large big boy 24/7 enclosure.

He seems to like it but I still catch him whining for attention and to be let out. But he will get used to it soon im sure.

 

It's so great to read about your big cats, and the job you do for them!

It's sad that Anevay wouldn't adapt, but it's not strange considering what experience he probably has with humans. At least he is enjoying his new life in the big enclosure

Cowboy is so cute! I would keep him as a indoor pet, but I guess that is not an option :mrgreen: I hope he settles down in his enclosure soon

Oh trust me it was so hard to transition him out of the house. He is such a mommas boy to the fullest extent lol. But the enclosure is whats best for him in the long run. We still have our daily visits and cuddles still .

 

That is such a good story about them getting their own enclosures!!! you do such good work.....

 

They are both beautiful and you do such geat work! Cowboy has that look of let me out please, I wanna play.

 

New digs for BIG cats

OH MY-they are spectacular-and what fab "new digs"-very impressive and how wonderful to have them so well cared for, quite amazing to this "city girl"-but, with Maggie eating less and SO PICKY, we do have a very well-fed opossum family and racoon troupe that come up from the small neighborhood creek
