    Hi everyone,
My cat is 24 yrs old I know he has had a long life but he's my baby boy and i'm afraid he is dying. He has dropped a great deal of weight over the last few days and now cannot walk, he last ate 2 days ago other than what i have force feed him and he stopped drinking water yesterday about 4am and now is being fed by dropper. He is still losing weight and just sleeps day and night. I'm scared if I take him to the vet he will put him down but at the same time I keep wondering if there is something the vet may be able to do other than empty my bank account :) Any advise or im-put would be very much appreciated...I keep praying to god to take him while he sleeps if it is his time cuz being put down just seems so horrible to me but I know it is called for at times. Oh and doesn't seem to be in any pain.
I thank you all even for listening it is like losing a family member.
    Love, peace and joy
    god bless!

Welcome. sorry to hear that he isn't feeling well. 24 years old wow he has lived a wonderfully long life means you've cared for him well over the years. Now comes the hard part kitties can't go long without food and water, and they are pro's at hiding how they are feeling. Taking him to the vet is the best bet to get the help he needs. Having a pet put to sleep is the best and most humane thing a owner can do, even though it is a very hard thing to do as the owner....Loosing a fur family is never easy but it is our responsibility. He has given you gift of all the love and companionship over the years and your gift to him would be the gift of not suffering. I hope that things are as pain free as possible for you during this most difficult time. We are all here for you and have done the same.

Wanted to thank you all for your caring words..

Thanks again to all that replied. My sweet earl passed away on my lap last friday night. I had made the appointment with the vet and gathered all the strength that I could to take him there. I so badly did not want him to suffer yet sadly didnt want a needle to be his last memory. I agree it is the most humane way as sad as it was he had given me many wonderful years of love and friendship and I respectfully had to observe his right to peace at the end.
How amazing was he right til the end!! I laid him in my lap cuddled him in his favorite blanket, washing his face from his weeping eye that had been injured when he was three from the fan belt of a car. I kissed his little pink nose, told him I loved him and that he was the best friend I could have ever had, that it was okay to leave and rest now. I stroked his belly and realized he was gone...omg I said to my son's and my mother he died. He knew how painful it was for me to take him and still in his last moments gave me yet another gift, he died cuddled in my arms peacefully fell asleep. I will forever love him and I believe he knows just how much!! It is so very painful and the tears flow easily just now but i'm sure it will get easier but my love for him will never diminish...he was family and will be remembered always.

Thanks so much for listening, for the advice which i'm sure is so hard to give sometimes but I was lost confused and was lead here to gentle hearts to guide my path...I will be forever grateful!
    Peace, love and joy

Rebecca..Soo sorry to hear that Earl passed away...I'm glad that he passed peacefully in your loving arms!! Loosing a fur family is never easy we have all been there many of us several times (myself included)... It is the hardest thing to bear witness to.. Knowing that we gave them a happy life full of love, fun, and companionship is what we keep with us....he will always be a part of you and your life!! He awaits at Rainbow Bridge for you so that you two can be reunited again....Along with all of our fur babies. I hope for peace for you and your family during this time...Remember all the good times and know that he is now watching over you and is healthy once again!!
    Hugs!!
