PLease help me, Fagan who had the most placid of nature has now taken to biting me really sore!!!
I have had to move the female bird out of his cage a few times for a day or two as sahe is having an issue with her feathers on her wings, and they are bleeding every now and again (the vet says she is trying to pull out her feathers coz they other butcher i took them too cut them wrong and she is not able to even help herself land ) so she is trying to get them to grow i believe a bit fast so she doesn't crash anyway i have had to seperate them but i put them in cages next too each other and when the wing has scabbed over i put her back wityh him, but now he is biting me and i am startingto get a healthy fear of him!!! i have NEVER had him bite me so deliberately now and again he had nipped me, but now he is mean, what do i do!!! do i get rid of her and would that calm him down or do i just accept that he will bite!

Hi, I am sorry to hear what your going through.
It does sound like he has bonded with your female bird and is now viewing you as a threat.

You can either keep them seperated and try and get him back to the way he was or go back to basics and get him to trust you again by slowly putting your hand in the cage a couple of times a day until you can eventually get him back on your hand without him biting you.

Spring is coming as well so that will kick the breeding instincts in which can cause both male and female birds to become agressive.

    Hi Mike

When i say Fagan has taken to biting me, it's not a territorial biting, he sits on my shoulder and gently kisses me on the cheek, now he grabs my lip and bites so hard he is drawing blood!!!, as for the weather i am in SA, so we are already in our Summer going into Autumn, our Spring is in Sept, he will allow me to put my hands into the cage and the only time he tries to bite is at bed time, when he wants to go to bed, but he has done this since he was a baby, and doesn"t try and bite if i take her out of the cage, personally he is just been a meanie when he sits on my shoulder but it's not all the time, but it's the feeling of just being nasty that is getting to me. I have him out of the cage as much as i can, and i play with him as much as i can, and on certain things it's just me and him and he seems ok with this, but then "Mr Hyde" comes out!!!

It does sound like its hormonal as when he bites hard it sounds like he trying to dominate you, or it could be because he is getting older he is getting cranky LOL. It could be he don't realise how hard he is biting as you say he don't do this all the time.

Most birds will bite at bed time as they are sleepy and can get really cranky.

I think he will snap out of it, The only thing i would suggest is if he does it again place him back in his cage for 10 minutes then try again but the first sign he is going to do it again say no or naughty see how he responds.
