My friend has 2 cats both about 8 years old, neutered males....he needed a place to keep them temporaily and I had an extra room in my house so I let him keep them in there, and then next thing I know he never came to feed them, check on them, or clean their boxes, so basically he left me with these cats, which is fine cause they are really sweet. So since they are mine now, I got them new litterboxes and litter, I have two boxes for them and clean them everyday and I let them be in the house to where before they were confined to the room. I want to continue letting them be in the house so they can get the human affection they want, but one of the cats has been spraying on the same spot on the side of my couch. The first week I let them out he didnt do this, but now it has been once a day. I don't know what to do, I currently have him in the "cat" room blocked from the rest of the house, but I want to let him out but I just cant if he is going to be spraying. I really didnt want the responsibilty of caring for two extra pets, I already have four dogs, and I'm sorta resenting my so called friend for basically dumping them on me. But being the animal lover I am I do want to give them a great home, but this peeing thing is driving me nuts.
I asked my friend if this cat did this when he had him and he said he would spray when scared, but honestly i have watched this cat interact with people and dogs in my house and he is anything but scared, he goes up to everyone and each dog for attention and rubs on them.

The only thing I can think of doing is keeping them confined to the one side of the house with the cat room, there is a door to the yard in that area too that I can leave adjar so they gcan go outside and have more room to roam. Its the only thing I can think of cause I'd rather let them have the access to the outside then being confined just inside the room forever, plus I feel bad for the cat that isnt peeing. Any suggestions??? Feliway doesnt work either. Thanks!

My guess would be that he's stressed about the new environment, even though he may not appear to be when you're looking at him.
If it's only been a fairly short time that he's been at your place, I'd give him more time to settle in properly.
I think keeping the cats separate from that area is probably a good idea, as long as they have outside access (as you said), and get plenty of love and affection (people contact). There's a good chance he is missing his owner too! I'm glad there are two of them, at least he has his familiar mate with him. It sounds like you're caring for them really well though, so I would say just give him time.
He may also be getting used to all the dogs, hence the marking of territory!
Good luck! (not much of a friend....!!) ;-)
