Cop Shoots Rottweiler in Omaha

Below is a message copied of a rottweiler board:

"I just learned that a Omaha Neb. area Police officer shot and killed two young Rottweiler females belonging to VonEisenhart Rottweilers. The first was a Attilla daughter Grip who just turn 2 yrs old the second was a Nero daughter Foxy who just took 2 place at the ARV Nationals a few weeks ago. Apparently the son of the lady who co-own's the two with Doug Harrington left a door ajar when he left the house yesterday afternoon and the two got out into the yard which is not fenced. The older b###h was playing with a neighborhood kid and another neighbor called the police and reported the dogs were running loose. When the ###hole cop showed up Grip was laying on the front porch of her home and he walked up and shot her three times once in the hip and then twice in the head. He then proceeded to the back yard and found Foxy who was trying to get back into the house and shot her the same way.
All I can say to the officer is I hope your proud of yourself

 

How disgusting is that. That guy should not be a cop. I though cops were supposed to be brave and fearless. What a wimp. This is aweful.

This is terrible !!! What in the #### does police have to do with a dog in their own yard ? This is stupid beyond stupid and getting way and I mean WAY ,WAY out of hand !!! GEEZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz !!!!!!!!!!!

 

This cop sounds like he has problems... maybe he has a personal hate for dogs, maybe he's just one of those idiot cops who thinks he rules all and can do what he wants. What a moron.
Whatever the reason, it was definately crossing the line into personal and not just doing his job. What a waste!!!!! How can you shoot a dog that's lying down and not harming anyone????
Oh it's so sad... the saddest thing about stories like this is that our dogs are so loyal... and then they get caught up in this mixed up world of ours and someone comes and does something like this for no apparent reason- not a reason a dog would understand anyway. It breaks my heart thinking of the one who was trying to get back inside.
I hope karma gets him...

 

Does anyone know if the cop can be reprimanded (or worse) for this behavior? I know it's a tough job, but doesn't he have to have some sort of provocation or fear of danger to himself or others before firing his weapon?

I am so sick of cops thinking they can get away with anything!
In Sask. a couple of years ago, some cops were accused of murdering a native youth. They found him outside and he had had a couple of drinks, well, they drove him to the city limits and let him walk back. Only they conveniently left out the part that it was -50C and the kid had no coat. He froze to death.

No wonder so many people hate police. There are so many crooked cops, how are we supposed to trust them.

I know they would be my last call for help if I ever needed it.

 

Thats why here in Puerto Rico cops are not trusted. 95% of things are dealt with on the street which is why crime is so high here. Alot of cops are thinking that they rule the streets.

This sounds like a lawsuit to me, I mean the dogs were calmly on their property, they werent going to attack.

I hope this cop is punished severely

 

Maybe it's a cop thing-- A coworker of mine, who is actually a former cop, just told me on Friday that he had killed his neighbor's dog- I was like, omigod, I'm so sorry-- thinking he had accidentally backed over it or something....well, turns out he did it on purpose.

I guess the neighbors have a few greyhounds that they rescue from greyhound rescue, and they have a fenced in backyard, but there was a bush that had grown particularly high by the edge, so last week the greyhound used the bush and got out of the fence, and then was running into my coworker's yard, and he had just gotten home and was getting something out of his trunk, so he took one of his golf clubs and hit it over the head, and it walked a few feet and died!!!! I couldn't believe he was telling me that- he said that it was running towards his kids, but he never mentioned it growling or anything, and I'm sorry but if my dog sees someone walk by, she runs up to him/her often, even though we are trying to get her to stop. Anyway, even though she runs up to someone she has no intention of attacking them- and if someone klunked her on the head just for running up to someone, I would be so so so outraged I don't even know what I would do!!!

I couldn't believe he told me that- I showed no sympathy at all- I think he expected me to be like, "you had to kill it in case it hurt your kids..." but I don't believe he had any reason to kill that dog unless he was sure it was going to attack. I guess there are just people out there that like to be cruel to animals, and you have to constantly be on the defense!!

 

I think a cop is programmed to act first and then think later - especially ones that work in very dangerous areas. For instance, if the greyhound had been bent on hurting one of the kids, by the time you know for sure it would be too late. BUT you would think there would be signs, such as the dog snarling, ears laid back, etc, that would give a clue to the intent of the dog. Then again, a person who doesn't know dogs wouldn't know what to look for. Sounds like this guy is just not fond of dogs.

Don't think I am making excuses for him, though. I think it was a horrible, awful thing to do. I am simply stating reasons why some people may be like this.

For myself, I don't think I would be able to hurt a dog. I mean, I suppose I would if it were actually attacking one of my children. But even in that case I think I would be focusing on disabling or distracting it long enough for us to get away.

I'm not sure I could continue to live next door to that guy, if I was the dog owner. And I know for sure I would sue the snot out of him.

There is simply no excuse. and who ever has seen a fisoius(how the heck do you spell that)!!! grey hound. They are so sweet and mild mannered.

There is no excuse for that .All the one had to do was call the owners .All the other had to do was call ,if nothing else the pound and leave a note for the owner to pick up .
My Lady just died from someone hitting her while I was away on a trip .For weeks we took care of her trying to find a solution other than making THAT decision .I tell you now ,if I catch a cop or a meter man or anyone on my property and they harm one of mine ,rescue /pet ....ANY ...I will give as good as my pet gets and then take them to court .!!!!
Greyhouds ,espically the rescues from tracks are the sweetest things ,Bull dogs are too if raised and bred correctly .I see no point in the senseless
hitting /killing /shooting of a dog for no other reason that stupidity .And to me ,it is just stupid .Our animals love us ,they are our friends ,our protectors ,when we let people get away with murdering one ...We all lose .

 

I just forwarded this post to my Uncle.. He's part of the HPD....

He told me that an officer of the law can be suspended with out pay for up to 2 wks, pending a trial for animal cruelty.

You said that a neighbor called it in.....perhaps they said that the dog playing with the young boy was attacking him or something???

Still, This ticks me off royaly.
My mother in law owns rotties, and has a 250lb German Rottie who couldn't kill a flea if it bit him!!!!! I hate stereotyping on people and animals!

 

My Husband and I had an experience with City of Phoenix officials and the Phoenix Police. This was a year ago. (not dog related) But I do know that the city's police and city officials will lie, cover up, and protect their own. That officer for all intent and purposes, just didn't like rotts. Maybe one bit him as a kid, who knows. But his story will be that the dogs were vicious and a threat to him and other people in the immediate neigborhood. That's his story, and he's sticking to it. Cops are beyond reproach. I have no faith in them what so ever. I always have it in the back of my mind, since I own PitBulls, that a cop can kill one or both of them in so called self-defense, just because of all the negativity that seems to plague them. They would lie through their teeth, and we wouldn't have any recourse.

 

I found this story on the Omaha World-Herald online. I assume it's refering to the story posted above. Sounds like a twisted story to me. Wonder if the poor dog had his tail wagging as he "rushed" the officer.

Bellevue officer kills dogs that chased neighbor






A Bellevue police officer shot and killed two Rottweilers on Tuesday after the dogs chased a neighbor into a shed and rushed the officer, police said.

Deputy Police Chief John Stacey Jr. said neither the neighbor nor the officer was injured in the incident near 19th Avenue and Jefferson Street.

The owner was cited on suspicion of having dogs at large and not having her pets licensed or vaccinated.
