Kitty not covering his business in the box

Does anyone have any suggestions or reasons as to why my 8 week old now 11 week old kitty does not cover after using the box? Someone said I could teach/train him. I guess after he goes grab his paw and cover his stuff. I can't be there every second to do it so is there anything else...maybe...hopefully.

maybe he'll learn to do this when he's older....it's something they learn to do to cover their scent and protect themselves in the wild - maybe he's just not old enough yet to realize.

My Little Fella Zeus never used to cover his pooh either. My Missy used to go in and cover it for him LOL he's now 2 years old (wow he'll be 2 later this month...must have a party - anyone wanna go?) and he covers. Well he tries to cover but does it rather messily.

Give your guy some time and he might - or he just might be one of those cats who feels comfortable enough in his home that he doesn't think it's necessary to hide his pooh.

Thanks for the info. I do hope he learns to cover it, cuz it sure smells ripe whenever he goes #2. I am a pretty clean person and would hate to be in the middle of dinner with company and that odor comes out in our dining room.

I'll go to the party. :p Thanks again.

when Zeus was a kitten we had to crawl to the litterbox to scoop....the air quality got so bad 2' above the floor we'd faint trying to get to the litterbox

My husband and I used to flip and coin over who was going to crawl into the bathroom (keep the litterboxes in our bathrooms) wearing the hazmat suit to scoop. I'm not sure but I think he had a 2-sided coin cause I wore the knees out of that hazmat suit.

I just use the LitterMaid...I love it and as long as I keep the container cleaned out it's all good smell-wise. My cat has an odd habit of only going on one side so it all piles up on one side of the container and not the other so I have to get the scooper and scoot it over from time to time but no biggie. :y_the_best:

My Gracie will spend 5+ minutes scratching and pawing at the carpet....the wall....the box.....just never gets close enough to cover the poop!!! I'm not sure....but I think it's a "Blonde" thing..............heh
