His name is buddie and we think he's around 1 to 2 years old. He's an alley cat so we really don't own him either... It started around 3 days ago. He came home after we hadn't seen him, and he was breathing really heavy, and he just wasn't acting right... He wasn't eating or drinking anything... I got really upset and called the vet. He told me to wait until in the morning and then make an appointment... I was a little mad, because I wanted him to be okay right then and there but it of course was around 7 Pm that I called. So I stayed up with him all night making sure he was okay, and that he was comfortable. So then I called the vet and got him in. The vet said it was a fever and he'd be okay with some medication. So I got the medication right aways, and starting giving it to him like the doctor had said. And we let him outside because he's an alley cat. We'll he came hom today and he's breathing heavy again. Only it's much worse. At the time I didn't have enough money to pay for the blood tests, so I decided that I'd wait to see what happens. We'll it's worse now, and I don't know what to do... It's 2 Am in the morning, and I'm limited on money... (i'm only 13...) I just want to make him comfortable... What can I do...?

without being able to do any bloodwork it's probably a guess as to what is wrong with him - could be poisoning and now it would be too late to do much as the toxins have probably already damaged his internal organs at this point in time - I hope that's not it but if this is an outside cat that is a strong possibility.

Can you keep him inside to watch him? And continue with the medication. But honestly without a thorough exam by the vet it's impossibly to offer any advice since no one can determine what is wrong with him.

IS there any way your parents could do something? Your yound and its nice that your wanting to help this kitty, but your going to need to have a Thourough exam done. Otherwise the vet is just guessing as to whats wrong with him.

you sound so responsible for thirteen. i admire your ability to find a cat forum, stay up with him all night and call the vet.

maybe a no kill shelter. be careful bringing him into your home if you have other animals. he probably is not vaccinated and may have a serious illnes that is contagious.

good luck to you. i agree... i would ask your parents if they can help take him to a shelter.

    Having to Cope

Well... Thank you... But unfortunaly we had to have him put down... I didn't have enough money for the blood work, but the Vet said that the stress on his lungs was too much... It turns out he had cancer... I had him put to sleep, and I buried him in my backyard. And thank you... A lot of people say that I look 13 but I act like i'm 30... I guess I felt that I need to take care of Buddie, and I'd have to pull money out of my bank account if needed.... Thanks much for your help, I'll keep this in mind next time I get a cat... It ended up that the total cost for all the blood work would have been around 100 dollars, I had that amount ready in my hand, but Like I said... I just thought that It would have been best, if he was to be put down, and no longer suffer.

oh snowysunoui...i am so sorry for buddie. you are very generous, compassionate and caring. you must be an "old soul". i believe blood work may end up being even more expensive than 100.00, because sometimes they can do it in their lab which costs less than that....but if they have to send it out, it is usually more.

anyway. he is no longer suffering. i am glad he had someone loving in his life before he passed. he was lucky to have you as a friend.

    Thank you...

Thank you all.... I'm very happy that I could find a place where people could come and help me with my pet problems... I don't think that I'll be getting another pet anytime soon. Instead I'm going back to the Local Humane Society to see if I can volunteer once more. The two simple blood tests would cost just 100.00 dollars. But then there was a few more tests after that. So yes, you were right. I would have spent around 200, to 250 dollars.

    Thanks

Thanks! We didn't really know what kind of cat he was... We had another cat just like him named Emmette. I see a lot of cats here where I live, that have similar markings.
