    i have a 20L tank and 2 goldfish in it i have a pump do i need a filter ??

    YES! You definitely need a filter. Otherwise the ammonia will build up and kill the fish. As it is, when you get the filter you will need to cycle it which means the ammonia & nitrItes will get high and you will still run the risk of having dead fish.

    Go out today and buy a filter. With a HOB filter, you will need at least 200 gallons/hour (gph). You should be able to find one for $20 - $40. And while you're out, get test kits for ammonia, nitrIte, and nitrAte. While the tank is cycling you'll have to monitor those and do water changes in order to keep them as low as possible.

    Also, what kind of goldfish do you have? Even if they're fancy goldfish, they would be much better off with at least 30 gallons. If they're comet/common or koi, they really aren't suitable for anything other than a large pond.
