If your cat doesn't perk up after a couple more days, I'd bring him to the vet. I hope he feels better.

Hi and welcome to the cat forum. I forgot to say hi earlier. I'm really bad when it comes to taking my cats to the vet. If they have a cold, they are usually more sleepy, eat less, sneezes crap. Like humans, our cats have known to have colds up to 2 weeks. If your cat stops drinking and eating, then I'd be very concerned and would bring him to the vet ASAP. If it's a viral infection, there's no treatment. If it's bacterial, your vet can prescribe antibiotics and this will speed up the recovery time. If you can hear congestion from your kitty's lungs, that's a bad sign and I'd bring him to the vet right away. If he's dehydrated, your vet can give him IV fluids, or you can give him pedialyte at home.

A simple vet visit is arond $40, plus whatever treatments your vet prescribes. It's understandable that you are tight on money. It should be your parents responsibility for the welfare of the cat. They should be able to take your cat to the vet as needed if they are responsible adults.

Call a local vet or an emergency 24 hr vet clinic/hospital for advice and explain your situation. Does your cat have a regular vet? Call them and good luck!

if cats can't smell their food they won't eat, so if he's congested he might not eat cause he can't smell his food.

You can run your shower and get the bathroom all steamed up and let him sit in there for awhile to clear up the congestion. Or if you have a vaporizer run that (without any Vicks in it). Then once he doesn't sound congested he might eat.

If you call your vet and tell them (especially if you have a good working relationship with them) your cat has an upper respiratory infection they might prescribe antibiotics without an office visit. Usually Clavamox is prescribed.

Don't let him go too long without eating as cats can develop liver problems very quickly if they go too long without food - as was mentioned I wouldn't let him go any longer than 2 days.

What's your cat's name and what does he look like? So glad Mary's advice worked. I will definitely try the shower steam for my kitties the next time they get nasal congestion.

    Please Pardon Me!!!

I'm very sorry for that last message! I'm new at this and I've never posted before! I tried to send a new message, but that didn't seem to work, etc.

I've been reading this message board for a long time and I've learned sooooooooooo much! Plus, everyone cares about everyone elses cats........I love it !

I do have a question, if I may.........I have a princess living with me, her name is Ruby Tuesday. I just adore her....but I've noticed something strange (?) about her! She turned 1 year old on June 20th, but the poor girl has no top fangs! She has her iddy-biddy top front teeth, and her back top teeth, but no top fangs! She eats well (very well !), she plays alot and doesn't appear to be in any pain. Am I worrying for nothing?

    I'd appreciate your help!
    Thanks!
    Michelle & Ruby

My cat Bert had a cold like this when I first adopted him from the shelter. It should be treated right away. The cat needs to be on anti-biotics and vitamin paste. I know the anti-biotics didn't help my boy, but the vitamin paste worked wonders. If the cold goes untreated you could have an infection on your hands, and the cat may start to bleed from the nose due to irritation from sneezing. I'd say take the cat to the bet sooner rather than later.

I love the name Ruby Tuesday. That's so cute and named after a restaurant no less. No wonder she eats so well. Just kidding. Welcome to the forum and I wouldn't worry if it's not bothering Ruby. I bet Chessmind would be the guy to ask. He's the dentist here.
