DEATH TO SNAILS!

So all the plants I've ever gotten from aquarium adventure have been infested with snails. What's the best way to kill them?! They've taken over my 10-gallon! And I stopped them in my 15 by CRUSHING THEM WITH MY HANDS and removing egg thingys!

HELP ME! (no chemicals, please, my baby mollies would suffer)

 

you can use a clown loach to kill them but the get kinda big for a 10 gal

 

best you can do is a clown loach. Most chemicals harm the fish and in my case lead to death of the fish. they are the best solution that i kno of. yes they will get to big but im sure your lfs will trade.

 

I just try to collect as many snails as I can every time I clean. I've heard you can also put a leaf of lettuce in the tank, wait a while, and the snails will all gather on the leaf so you can remove a bunch of them at once, but I don't know how well it actually works.

I've done the lettuce leaf thing before and pulled out about 30 snails per day doing it. But it doesn't really seem to make that much of a difference so I will be picking up Snail-A-Cide next time I'm in the lfs.

 

dont do any chemicals!!! they can cause risky damage to the fish.

Well I figure it can't hurt in the tank I'll be using it on as it's only my little 5 gallon fry tank that won't have any fry left in it when I use it. It's either that or throw in the clown loaches for a while which IMO is a very bad idea as it's such a small tank.

 

Hi tina1, Just a suggestion. In your case you have no fish in the tank, but you want to keep your bacteria culture in place. Invertabrates, such as snails, can not take copper. Treat your tank with a copper cure at regular dosage as if in treating fish. After the snails have died you can remove them as you do water changes, and remove the copper at the same time.

that is a good point copper kill snails

 

The best way is to use clown loaches to solve the problem.. if u use chemicals, make sure that it doesn't harm the fishes, plants etc.. Best of luck, don't squeeze them with your hands, its disgusting! :?

 

just buy some dwarf puffers. they love snails. a clown loach works too.

lol, yeah it works but its messy. go with one of the two fish, the snail remover chemicals have bad copper and all that stuff in there.

 

I've always wanted a puffer anyway.....

Will he just eat them off the glass and gravel or do you have to plop them in for him?

 

i want a puffer. they are cool, but i love my clown loach. he swims around. i have a ammonia tester that sticks to the side of the tank and it is a piece of plastic though, when he is tired he swims up there and sticks between the glass and ammonia checker all night. in the morning he is swimming around having fun :shock:

 

take the plants out ad put them in a bucket of club soda with the snails the snails will die quickly becausy they dont reath carontaed water and just let it soak for 30 mins then get rid of all your eggs in the tank or u could take your fish out put them in a holding tank remove half the water of the tank wit snails and pore in bleache then clean evrything and tart over best of luck
