I pulled these guys out of my pond yesterday. There's 4 of them. One's not quite 1/2", 2 are just over 1/4", and one is just under 1/4".

t_chelle have u ever seen a feeder fish sort of like yours, but about 6"? My cousin has one that bigger then my oscars. Is that unsual? That was the biggest feeder fish I've seen in my life.

Aaaw, they're cute! I've never seen goldfish fry either. And I've never heard of them just breeding. You must have some pond

Feeder goldfish are generally comet/common goldfish and they can get over 12". And actually, the fancy goldfish (which are the smallest) can get 8". That's why they're really more suitable for ponds and definitely shouldn't be kept in goldfish bowls.

I'm pretty sure the mother of these guys was one of my shubunkins and the father was either the other shubunkin or a fantail (goldfish are all the same species so they can all interbreed). I've been told that if you breed two different varieties of goldfish, the fry can end up looking like any one of the different varieties or a mixture. So far, I think a couple of these might end up looking like comets.

I just caught 7 more so now the total is 11.

I'll probably keep some of them, but I already have 6 goldfish so I don't think I'll have room to keep them all. The others I'll sell to the LFS.

t_chelle i think u should just keep them in ur pound, if u sell it to the LFS it will just become lunch for another fish.

well for now she can keep them where they are and later transfer them, there is no real need for her to get rid of them by feeding them to fish.

The LFS I sell my fish to doesn't sell feeders (ie lots of fish for really cheap). Plus, I can't keep every single fish that is born in my pond. It would get overstocked and all my fish would die. I can't stop them from breeding so I have to find some way to dispose of the excess fry. Which means either leaving them in the pond for a while and giving the adults a chance to eat them, feeding them to my oscars, or taking them to the LFS and give them a chance to become a pet.

I know this is kinda repetitive but, this is also my first time actually seeing goldfish fry up close! How big and how old are your goldfish! They must of been really big and I heard it is hard to breed goldfish. Congrats and good luck with your goldies!

I have 6 adult goldfish. The 2 shubunkins are about 4" - 5" and the 4 fantails are 2" - 3". I didn't really try to get them to breed, I just put them in my pond and a few weeks later I noticed that one of the shubunkins was getting chased a lot by 4 of the other fish. Then the other day I was sitting by the pond and noticed some little fry that definitely weren't guppies.

I'm not entirely sure how old these fry are but if their growth rate is anything like african cichlids, I'd guess they're about 3 - 6 weeks old.

odd, but cool, maybe when they are big enough you could choose some to go in your pond and maybe donate to a lfs.

Do you bring your shubunkin's in for the winter? Do you have any pictures of them, cause I like them and I'm thinking of putting them in my pond I'm building next year!
