i have a cat which i adpoted almost a year ago..so she is about a year old..named spike..i know its an odd name for a girl cat, but she is my alarm system..:) anyway..i was coming home one night at about 4 a.m. (i am a college student :) ) and this kitten literally ran into my foot and jumped up for me to pick her up..so my sister and i brought her in and fed her and she ate so much, and was SOOOO SWEET didnt hiss or do anyhthing slept with my sister that night,,but anyway spike will hiss and claw at me but still sleep with me and wake up in the middle of the night with her snuggled up against me....she runs away from the kitten whenever it gets near her and m!akes these weird noises all the time!?? like moaning? what do i do? help

i am also interested in advice on this topic...i have my 5yr old cat..and just adopted the 2 new kittens...they have seen each other..but the 2 kittens are still quarentined in the bathroom due to their ringworm...Jazzy the 5 yr old is interested in them..but hisses when they get too close..therefore i am sooooo nervous when the day comes to let them out!!

I think slow introductions work really well. Definately check out the site Mary posted there are several helpful links under the section "Introducing A New Cat Into Your Household".

It's been my experience with cats that when you bring a new one into the picture they either like each other or tolerate each other. Never have I had them constantly fighting and attacking each other for no reason...especially if they're all spayed/neutered.

We've tried to introduce an adult cat to our adult cat and it didn't worked. I guess it was a territorial thing. The new cat kept attacking our cat Smokey, so unfortunately we were unable to keep the new one. When we brought two stray kittens into the house, Smokey cat accepted them better.

I've read that adult cats accept kittens better than big cats. You probably should be able to have an easier time of it being as they are kittens.

Our Smokey became a sort of father figure to them. He showed them the ropes....like how to catch mice and birds (wish he hadn't have done that).

    Best of luck to you.

    SLOW INTRODUCTIONS....
I did a lot of reading about introducing a new kitten to an old cat (actually that's how I found this forum)...
Anyway, what I did for Hunter (now 11mos old) and Anna (14 years old)...was Hunter stayed in our bedroom for the first two weeks that we had him.....he had all the comforts food, litter, water, toys....and a dirty shirt of mine and DH's both laying on the bed when we left.

After a few days...we then let Anna into the room...while putting Hunter into another room....or keeping him away from Anna, like she would be sniffing in our room and we would have Hunter downstairs playing...I'd play interference on the stairs.

We introduced them a few times....and then finally....they spent the night with all doors open.....Hunter was fine...Anna was fine....they fight daily now...but no blood, so all in all, all is good!

thanks everyone for the good advice....it did go slow...but i catch spike sniffing boots when no one is looking, and starting to understand that boots just wants to play...there hasnt been any really bad confrontations, and spike is starting to be a little nicer to me :y_the_best: i actually didnt quarentine either one of them so maybe thats why it started out rough..i just threw them together , the only thing i did do is lock spike in my room at night so i didnt get woke up...but all is going good now! thanks!
