only porblem you might have is if it lays eggs....soon you would be getting what seems like thousands of babies

If it's one of those big apple snails, and if you have live plants then there is a problem. The snail will eat at the plants. Apple snails cannot survive for very long on tank algea alone. (unless you have a lot of algea) You will have to feed it vegies or algea tabs.

the fish will like eating them too, but they breed like hell!

snails are great. they eat algea and stuff..... but they do breed quickly. remove any eggs when u first notice them.

The nice thing about apple snails is they need 2 in order to breed. So if you just have one, you don't have to worry about a population boom.

Hey tchelle will snails survive in a tank with small oscars if they are larger...maybe 1-1 1/2in diameter?

They may eventually get eaten. I've heard stories of oscars sucking apple snails out of their shells.

They are good and bad, they chew up the plants and at times can cause some types of parasites though they do keep down the algae levels.

If you want to remove algae from your tank just use plecos or catfish because i have known a few people with aquariums who just got ONE snail and they took over...i wont get those for my setup lol

Very true, though when you do get a snail in make sure you can get a clown loach or a fish like that later on that can eat the extras.
