Hey guys! I'm new here... eheh.

Yes well anyway, I have a 1 year old shih tzu named Nemo ( yeah, finding nemo.) Anyway, whenever his water bowl is empty, he would pick it up and carry it around hoping somebody will see it and add more water to it. It used to be the cutest little thing.
But now, he picks it up even if it has water in it, and sometimes it's full. He makes a huge mess, so I was wondering, anybody have any ideas on how to stop getting him to pick up his bowl?

that is soooo cute. hahhahaa, well, i have an idea, my baby pom used to push her bowl around with her nose =) so i started getting the stainless silver bowls with the rubber bottoms on it so that she couldn't move it. I figure it might be the same idea with him picking it up and carrying it everywhere. I hope that helps. if you have no idea what bowl i'm talking about, i'll post a picture up! =) Goodluck!

 Hi, and WELCOME to the board teena89!!!

Nemo is absolutely precious...what a great pic of him in your avatar!!! (Oh, and I LOVE his name, so cute!) :y_the_best:

Regarding your question, I know it's now annoying, but him carrying around the bowl to let you know is just too cute! However, I can understand your frustration with him picking up the bowl when it is full. You may want to check into buying one of those automatic water dispensers - here's what they look like: http://www.petsmart.com/global/product_ ... 1815483920

I think it would be a great alternative: 1) It automatically refills bowl when it gets low, that way you won't forget to keep his water bowl full. 2) Your dog won't be able to pick up the bowl since it is attached. 3) They are well-priced, inexpensive.

So, there's my idea of what might help!

Good luck, and once again, welcome! :D

    Thanks for the welcome!

I used to have one of those water bowl things but he wasn't well potty trained yet so I didn't want to give him unlimited water... he's potty trained now, but I can't find the water dispenser.

I could use the stainless steel bowl as his water bowl, I have one right now, but I'm using it as his food bowl. I could just switch the two. I think I'll do that for now, and I'll tell you guys how it turns out.

Hello again, I just wanted to post you a quick picture of the one I use. It works great and not that expensive. I like the water dispenser but a little too pricy for me. I dunno, goodluck! And again Welcome! and love that Avatar! Wish I could post one up of my baby!

I hope the links work, if not you can go to www.petsmart.com and it's the wire diners! =) Take care and have a good day!

I think if the other options won't work, you can buy a heavy crock type of bowl. I use a good sized heavy souffle bowl. Heavy ceramic. I got mine at peir one imports. But they sell them all over.

I, too, had the same problem with Bailey. I went through many many many bowls until I found the stainless steel with the rubber bottoms (petsmart versions) -- the isn't a "lip" on the top, so he couldn't pick it up and he can't scoot them around on the floor with his nose as easily. I also ended up buying a "place mat" for the floor to help even more with the scooting, since it's on ceramic tile.

by the way... WELCOME TO THE BOARD!!!!! I love your picture of Nemo! veryyyyyyyy cute!!!!! :)

Yep yep. I've switched his water bowl to the stainless steel one with the rubber on the bottom, and so far he hasn't picked it up.. I think it's like MonsterBailey said, there's no little lip thing for him to pick it up with.

    Thanks for helping guys!
