Well, we made the decision to get rid of our fresh water fish and redo the tank in saltwater..No worries! We arent gonna flush them or anything.. A girl is comin by tonight to pick up most of the fish except for the betas, upsidedown catfish, cory cats and pleco. With our ph levels in that we have in our water, its going to be hard on us and hard on the fish to try to lower them to a steady 7.0. Most saltwater fish like ph levels of 8.4 ((which is what our tank is steady at now and wont lower)). We are going to put the other fish into other tanks we now have till they get a little larger. They still have lots of room since we do have a 20 gallon and all the fish that we are keeping are about an 1" and a half long. If anyone can direct us to some really good saltwater sites..let us know. Thank you!!

Don't worry, almost any saltwater mix will bring it right to 8.4

Just out of curiosity, why do you think you need a lower pH? I'm not following why having a pH of 8.4 is a problem :?: #-o

hi there, you don't need to worry to much about your ph, mine has been 8.4 for a couple of years now and not caused any problems, just as long as its steady and not yoyoing.

most of the fish i had needed ph's of 7.0-7.3

I just lost a betta today. I dont know why im losing fish. Tonight we are switching out the fish we have left to the new tank.

Probably just due to the cycling. Are you keeping an eye on your ammonia and nitrite levels?

Is it hard to maintain a saltwater tank? Also, does anyone know any good websites on how to start and maintain saltwater tanks?

http://www.hotflip.net/salt.html is a great site for saltwater begginners (wrote it myself) 8.4 is a good ph for saltwater fish, also use sand to buffer it.

EDIT: And yes, saltwaters a breeze.
