Kennel costs

My wife and I will be taking Maddie to the kennel in about a month and are still talking about the rates they are able to get here in Northern Virginia. I just wondered how much the rest of you are used to paying for taking your pups to the kennel? For this, I have set up a poll. Thanks for participating! : )

For nearly $40/day, I hope our pup has the time of her life!

 

Wow, I live in New York State (not the city, though) where we are used to paying relatively high prices for many things-- but our kennel is only $11 or $12 per night (can't exactly remember.) But $40! We have motel rooms here cheaper than that- and you can bring in your dog, too.

 

The only overnight I ever use is my vet and they are really good to me and charge a very small amount .I think though to just a customer off the street they are higher though .

 

I never kenneled my dogs, but my sister pays $25 a night for her saint bernard and $15 if it's just for the work day.

 

I have never done it either. But I do know up at All pets vet they charge about $11 a day. Its nothing fancy, really. I guess if you pay more expect more like playtime with other dogs, baths. Stuff like that.

 

I just answered the other post on kennelling and thought I should mention here that we pay our house/dog sitter $25 per night to stay at our home while we're gone- and we have three dogs to care for. Housesitting may not be the option for everyone, but we absolutely love it instead of having to kennel them.

 

I've never had to kennel Bailey... (that's what family is for! LOL) nor do I think I ever would. Don't get me wrong - I'm not knocking it, because most of the time there aren't any alternatives....... but, I just couldn't have the heart to do that! LOL...... You all know how I am (heck, we all are! LOL) with my baby... lol....... I'd be a nervous WRRRRRECK!

But JMTooTall, I'm curious..... what did they say the $40 covered? Seriously, I'm just curious what it covers.... Are they doing any obedience/school/classes? Are they covering his meals (filet mignon, I'd assume)?.... and how much time are they crated/caged, versus running free?

I know it is only $22/day for the week. BUT!!! The last time they take your dog out to eliminate is 4-7pm. Then, the don't open again until 7am the next morning. This means your pup could go 12-14 hours without being taken outside to potty! If you pay for the additional $15 worth of stuff... one of the things the puppy gets is the frosty paws ice cream treat just before bed time and one additional run. This happens around 10pm. 9 hours is much more reasonable than the 12-14 hours without being let out. This would end up being $24 (weekend) + $15 = ~$40!!

Does this make more sense? Still seems a bit expensive to me.

 

whoa....... I agree to not take them out for 12-14 hours sounds absolutely ABSURD to me. I agree, I'd pay the $40 too then... it's kind of a no-brainer. :-# It's almost as if they have you by the *blanks* so that you'll pay the extra $15 just so your dog can go potty when he/she needs to!.... shhhhhheeeeeeeeeshhhhhh....

I'm sure you have looked at all your options, but it's a shame you don't have a friend or neighbor kid that you can get to house/doggy sit for you. Because at $40/nite.... we're talking $200 for just five nites! :-# That's insane! lol.... oh the things we do for our babies... hehe ](*,)
