I'm going to try to breed feeder guppies one last time!

I'm going to try to breed feeder guppies for the one and only last time! I'm going to buy the feeders later on today at Super Pet and divide them up and wutever. Any last minute advice, since the last time I tried breeding them they all died and I was very very very disappointed? Also, I have one problem. I no longer have the 10 gallon tank that I used to keep them so any suggestions on what I should use instead? Thanks!

Do your have an established filter?

For a tank, if you're just looking for something that's functional but don't really care about looks, I'm a big fan of storage bins as temporary tanks because they're really cheap. I just bought a 50 gallon bin (had a bit of a pond emergency yesterday) for $14.

Yes, I have a filter and a heater. I was thinking about the storage bin idea before, but, the only thing is that I wouldn't really know when the female is about to give birth because I would be restricted to only a birds eyeview of her. Also, I'm afraid my filter will suck up the adults.

What Kind of filter do you have? Guppys arnt as easy to breed as everyone says lol. Not for me atleast ive had female and males for like 3 months and ive only saved 3 fry. But that is the only onbe who had babies and she couldnt have had more then 6 she was really skinny. But there is 2 more pregs on there way in my tank

But, this filter has had a history of sucking up the platies and mollies that I had awhile back.

You mean the fish were hungry? Cause I'm sure that I feed them well and the filter killed at least 15 fish (mostly mollies, platies and about one or two plecos).

Sorry, I don't remember. However, I have this really small filter thing that I used for a 5 gallon tank, do you think that it could work for the guppies, or should I just have no filter and just do regular changes in the water?

K I bough my feeder guppies today, I was very surprised that at how well the lfs kept their feeders. They were in well maintained tanks as all the other fish, anyways, I now have two rubbermaid containers I have a big with about 7 feeder guppies 3 of which are males with a flat slanted rock, a little house thing and a cave thing and in the smaller one I have 4 feeder guppies 1 of which is a male with this one giant artifical plant that takes up about two thirds of the bin. How can I tell when the fry are born since I only have a birds I eyeview of the fish. How does this setup sound. I forgot to mention the filter and everything else. How often should they be feed (parents).

I've been breeding fancy guppies for awhile now, but I'm not sure if the info applies to feeders too.

If your worried about the filter sucking up the fish, put cheesecloth or some other thing like that (I can't remember what its called) around the part that sucks. It might restrict what gets into the filter, but it should stick to the covering, so you can wipe it off, or just change it.

Will you be keeping the babies in with the adults? With fancies, they will eat the babies, unless there is alot of foliage to hide behind. I put my babies either in a separate tank, if available, or a breeding box. I made my own one of those once, with one of those plastic strawberry containers and some tights, it allows the water to get through, so they don't have to live in the same water all the time, but they can't get through and neither can the adults.

I'm not sure if this helps or not.

    fry

I have had about 5 batches of fry and only 2 deaths total, WELL LAST TIME MY MOM DIED BUT ONLY TWO FRY have DIED total.

In fact some of my fry have had fry as well. They are very busy you know.

I take them out rght away and put them in a breader net. OR
I put the mom and the fry in the breader (the mom for only 2days-in case she has more). Than I leave the fry in the breader in tell they are big enough to get away.

If you have any questions reply here ok.

I don't know how to move the female from the tank to another tank without stressing her and causing her to abort the babies and die. How do I do that.

    Also,
your taking about the mother fish right.

So, does anybody know how I could remove a female feeder guppy without her getting stressed and aborting the baby and dying herself?
