okay this will seem probably a little stupid, but i just got a beta fighting fish yesterday in a fishbowl (i heard that is where they like to live) and this morning there are lots of little bubbles gathered near the corner at the top, is this bad? if so what should i do to fix it?

i have never had a fish before so i do not know

I always say that a betta is happy when he starts making bubble nests. It seems that is a true sign that it is healthy, so good job!

If you are on city water then chances are you will definitely need something to remove chlorine & chloramine. There are many different products that do that. My personal favorite is Chlor Out (by Wardly - Walmart brand) because it does't take very much (5 drops/gallon) so the bottle lasts a long time. Amquel is also a good one because it removes ammonia too. That will definitely be good if you don't have a filter on the tank/bowl.

i am going shopping tomorrow for him, so besides the chlorine stuff, is there anything else that will be good? this is my first fish so i have no idea

Personally, I think that bettas do better with bottled drinking water. The water around here is pretty harsh and, without a filter, they really dont do to well in it.

BTW, how big is the fish bowl? At a bare minimum, it should be 1 gallon but 2+ gallons would be better.

It would also be a good idea to buy a test kit for ammonia (since there's no filtration, you really don't need the other tests).

i am not really sure how big the fishbowl is, but i am buying a new one tonight, any suggestions?

it cannot be anything too big though, because he is on my bookshelf and there is not much space in my room.

and with the bottled water, it needs to be kept at room temperature, right? not cold water? and thank you all so much for your help!!
